Summary
Full scholarship likely available elsewhere; kid probably chose PSU for proximity/prestige, not only offer.
MontcoPanther said... (original post) You continue to prove that you're the dumbest person on this site. Well, one of the top 3 dumbest. show more So the exact opposite of that. Your comment made no sense because it implies that out of the thousands of schools, PSU was the 1 and only that would offer a full scholarship. That's obviously not true because if he got a full ride there, he would have gotten a full ride many other places, he just didnt apply to them. If you have a kid who is scholarship material, its probably a good idea to apply to a large number of schools. And as someone said, applyling to college isnt free....but it basically is (less than $100 mostly). So if your goal is to get a full scholarship, its probably best to apply to 10-20 schools because a few of them might offer. In this case, the kid likely wanted to go to PSU because its the trendy thing to do for suburban kids, its close enough to home, he liked the campus, his friends were going there, etc. The full scholarship is a great achievement but the reason it was his only full scholarship is because he didn't apply to enough to get a 2nd offer and was satisfied with the PSU offer. Listen, I'm not going to knock anyone for going to Penn State (except Pitt football legacies). My kids arent going there but out of the several thousand available schools, if your kid wants to go there, fine. I'm just saying the full scholarship isnt a reason because he would have gotten another offer.
