Assistant Coach Media Session
Summary
McGiven: O-line incrementally better under Gross; Dev showing strong command, experience; Byrd progressing differently; backs reading well.
KEVIN MCGIVEN HIGHLIGHTS It's been really good. A lot of buy in. A lot of moving parts that come with this offense. Install days can get frustrating but we stay the course in it. On O line: Incrementally better. Coach Gross has done tremendous job. Especially from a technical aspect. Pad level, first two steps, hand placement, etc. Defense has thrown a lot at them. They've done a great job handling it. Recognition has been great. Need to decide on starting five, their roles, and collective chemistry. Really impressed with Dev's command. Experience was evident. He's been a starter for a long time, so it's been applying new things he's learning. Command - especially last couple of practices - has been impressive. He's doing a really good job of displaying a high comfort level. Byrd has had same type of progress. Different levels in terms of command. Do different things with him. Being creative in usage of both. BP from the get go his experience pushed him into a leadership role. His exposure to the offense has paid dividends in his play and elevating those around him. Backs are seeing things really well. The mindset that comes with neing a ball carrier in that room. I love the mentality. Just like last year, we're going to need to rely on the run game. Need to control line of scrimmage. Receivers: Touchdown Larry has done an awesome job. Showed up from the start. Creed the role he's playing in has a lot of decision making and he's done a good job. Ricky Johnson - when he's confident, he's dangerous. Kyri is coming along. Explosive playmaker. Thinks he has a really good group.
