Kash Dillon Growing Into a Leader in Third Year With Utes
Summary
Utah DE Kash Dillon gained weight, improved explosiveness this spring; fierce competition for two starting edge spots; praises new coach Inoke Breckterfield.
No matter what position group it is, the goal for every single Utah football player this spring has to be to improve at their craft. Utah DE Kash Dillon is feeling like he has made some strides this spring as the Utes look to replace both starters on the edge in 2026.
"I feel like I've definitely improved. Gotten a little bit bigger, put on some weight, just being a little bit more stout, and then with my explosiveness and things too, I feel like I'm developing skills I can translate on the field," Dillon said.
While the individual growth is vastly important for this room, there is also a fierce competition raging in the end room this spring.
"The D-end room is like that every year. We just have a good D-end room at Utah, and it's been like that for the past 10 years. You learn to love each other, but we're trying to make each other better every day. There can only be two starters, but just bring your all," Dillon said. "The biggest goal is to win a championship. So that's kind of how we're thinking of it."
Dillon also spoke highly of his new position coach, Inoke Breckterfield, and how he has done with the group this spring.
"He just adapts to the room very well, and he's very personable. He does a good job of explaining things to our young guys and just getting everyone along. And he does a good job with the culture, too. We have a tight-knit room. It's been a lot of fun," he said.
As Dillon continues to battle for playing time, he has also been working on growing as a leader off the field as he enters his third year with the Utes.
"With how many of our guys ended up leaving our team, you need people to step up. So right out of the season, I realized I'm now an older guy, and a dude has been in the program for two years going into my third, so it was my time to be a leader and step up," Dillon said.
As the Utah coaching staff continues to figure out the correct pairing of players on the defensive line, they are also trying to do the same on the offensive front. But despite all the new faces, Dillon has faith in the guys lining up across from him.
"I feel like people tried to put a negative light on them because of the talent of our offensive line last year. But they're just as well prepared, and they're pushing us every day, and so they're making us improve," Dillon said.
When asked who has given him the most fits this spring, Dillon kept his answer light, not tearing down any of his teammates.
"That's kind of messed up," he joked. "I spend most of my time against Zereoue. I feel like I have for the past two years. So I'd say he's probably my biggest competitor right now," Dillon said.
