How do we measure Whit Babcock's legacy?
Summary
Whit Babcock arrived during VT's downward spiral; made good hires but couldn't reverse football's decline amid weak institutional support.
I think Whit came at a bad time. Weaver and Beamer being sick had already set VT back. Charles Stegar was into sports about as much Lassie was into meow. Follow that by Enter SANDS man. Not much support for athletics. Know matter what people say. Whit made some good hires. What Whit didn't do was pick football back up from it fast moving downward spiral. Matter of fact it failed under Whit. The old guard and their arrogant thoughts pushed him wrongly. You can say it was money. That is not true. VT had plenty of money to be better. I have every idea Whit legacy will be tarnished by football. He knows that. You can tell on these boards Whit Babcock time at VT needs to be done. His love for VT I will never doubt. I think he tried to tell higher brass and the old guard just how it was spiraling. No one listened or they pushed him into bad football decisions. For me Whit is mixed bag. It was time to move on. Next AD I hope has the number 1 thing needed. Total support from the top. A president and BOV that have fondness to be very good. Not ones that are "AW Shucks". If that makes sense.
