Redshirt Freshman CB Ramonz Adams Discusses Move Inside, Improving His Game, Battles With Dezmen Roebuck
Summary
Adams moved to nickel, emphasizes physicality and gap coverage; adjusted well to Washington weather.
Ramonz Adams Jr. has had to learn patience as he waited his turn in the secondary. However, with regular nickel Rahshawn Clark continuing to recover from offseason surgery, he's gotten lots of reps inside and shown well. He met with the media to discuss his move inside and his battles with Dezmen Roebuck in practice... On his talking on the field "I wouldn't say 'trash talk', but it's just to get the other guys going and get that big competition in practice all the time and getting ready for the game." On his biggest adjustment moving inside to the nickel/slot corner spot "Really just being more physical, filling gaps, covering gap-schemes and all of that." On when the coaches started talking to him about playing nickel/slot "Really the end of last season, started getting reps at it to see what it looks like for next year." On adjusting to playing at Washington "It wasn't really hard. I think the only adjustment to make was the weather, sunny to rainy." On what it was about Washington that made it the right choice to sign with after his senior season "Really just the coaches. I had a good relationship with coach (Jedd) Fisch, 'JRich' (John Richardson), the nutritionists, everybody." On his comfort-level now "I feel pretty comfortable getting to know the playbook inside and out." On what it's like playing for Richardson "It's fun. It's more of a family bond than just a coach. He's going to get on you and be hard on you." On what Richardson demands "Hold your leverage on tackling, don't over run it and don't let people cut back." On his rivalry with Dezmen Roebuck "He's real shifty. He is kinda fast, with his 'rocker' steps, he's kinda shifty." On if he knew he would be challenging for a starting spot as a redshirt freshman "That was always the goal. Freshman coming in, you always want to play your first year, that's what everyone thinks about, but sitting behind Ephy, Bobo, Rahshawn and learning from those guys is good experience. " On some of the things he's been working on "Being more physical, not being scared of contact and stuff like that."
