Keeping A Positive Mindset Through Tough Times Is Something Isaiah Ward Figured Out Early In His Life
Summary
Senior EDGE Isaiah Ward focused on staying healthy after two injury-plagued years; parents instilled positive mindset.
Senior EDGE Isaiah Ward has struggled to stay healthy since he arrived at Washington, but after two straight-years in the training room, he's ready to make an impact in his final season of college football and one of the reasons is because of the positive attitude his parents instilled in him as a young child. He met with the media recently and discussed his mindset as well a young player who has impressed him so far after five spring football practices... On trying to stay healthy and available this year "Doing as much as I can in treatment room to make sure none of that injury stuff happens and I can fully go this season." On keeping the right mindset despite the setbacks "It doesn't change for me. I stay ready to go. Stuff happens all the time and you just have to keep the right mindset and it's going to pull you from wherever you are." On if he comes by that mindset naturally "Growing up, my mom and dad always had that mindset. Just working so much, no matter how much goes down, they always had a smile on their face, always made us smile no matter what we were going through, so I really got it from my parents." On his weight and if he can get bigger "Summertime, we're aiming for 250, 255, that's going to be the best (weight) I'm going to be at." On how the two defenses he's played in at Washington have benefitted him "They both benefitted me. They were both (Steve Belichick and Ryan Walters) were really good minds at defense. I can't say if I benefit more (from one or the other), but they were really good defensive coordinators." On facing off against the Husky offensive line "They're really good. They're really tough, they're really physical and they get real excited too. I love every day that they bring it too." On Kodi Greene "He's going to be good. We help him a lot. He's really good as a freshman though. He's really good as a freshman. He just needs to keep working. He's really got it." On if he prefers to face a freshman or a veteran "I like going against Drew (Azzopardi) because he's a vet, but Kodi Greene always so good. He gives me great work, so it's not really looking at him as a (freshman). He's a guy who's trying to learn and take his spot."
