A mixed use College football stadium district?
Summary
Mixed-use districts generate recurring revenue via restaurants, retail, hotels, property-tax waivers; concerts limited by field maintenance (Clemson capped 2/year).
Rental income from restaurants and retail businesses. Income from apartment, hotel and condo sales (to an extent the university has that with the Martin Inn). The article talks about how a university can waive property taxes for property owners who agree to direct those funds to university athletics. Recurring revenue that’s not related to media rights or licensing. The whole point about concerts in the stadium is the current limitations. They reported decent food and beverage sales for the concert, but a fair chunk of that is shared with Aramark. Because of the grass field renovation, Clemson will be capped at a couple DV concerts per year. These universities are building out new revenue generators because they can build around the stadium as a economic district, not be defined by only what event(s) are occurring inside.
