bulldogrob said... (original post) It'd be a 180.Like the Lobos fans on X when the subject of joining the Pac. show more I am a “Rational Optimist” some say that’s delusional. If Hawaii was in the PAC, I would be: 1) happy to be in a conference. 2) pissed at spending $18MM exit fees to the MW. 3) not happy that the MW is still around and our champ is playing their champ in a bowl, vs taking on the P4. 4) open to merging or taking steps towards merging, especially if we don’t have to pay $18MM. I would have to create unequal incentive revenue. I would try to get his Poinsettia Bowl scenario become our Conference Championship Game (MW vs PAC). I would use the two media deals to set the price for media payout for this initial 6 years. PAC members get PAC money. MW gets MW money. Some PAC folks will say the PAC is harder, but if they make more money, than that’s a mitigation. I would consolidate the conference managements to one entity, to save money. In 2032, we combine media rights and go to market. Merged conference would then try to get a bowl matchup Poinsettia Bowl vs a P4. We miss out on having an extra championship game, but at least it is likely not a rematch game. Hawaii saves on not having exit fees. Also gets a premium on media revenue (assuming PAC media deal is higher). The merger would evaluate the Kiswe DTC streaming service. This benefits larger fanbase/market schools, as the schools get majority of revenue. 2032: I would make non-football sports into geographically aligned divisions. Can keep the same Football PAC-MW distinction, or shuffle. Call ourselves “P5” - might try to reward top program close to $20MM revenue (to do that, need a bigger base of other schools to pay less money). For Hawaii and most other schools (that are not rumored to be P4 call ups), this is our best home.
