HawkeyeInsider Post-Spring Position Battle Roundtable: Defensive Line
Summary
Iowa DL young but shouldn't surprise given FCS transfer approach; top 20 defense doable; secondary strength allows Parker scheme flexibility.

Time will tell. I don't know if this is a top 10 defense, but I think top 20 is doable. I am maybe not as worried about the DL for two reasons: 1. They look shakey going up against what's probably going to be a top 3 OL in the conference. Most young defensive lines would look the same. Long term, will help them get better. 2. Sure, the defensive line is important for our scheme, but if we are slightly weaker there, Parker can adjust. We were just fine last year with our best defensive linemen being a 7th round pick. Why? Because Parker felt he had the secondary to pressure more, and drop safties into the box to help the front 7. I expect the secondary to be a strength, so wouldn't be surprised at a simliar approach this year.
