Slow pace last year limited opponent scoring chances; slower pace allows quick transition to second gear if defense falters.

I think some of the slow pace was because BMC knew the offense wasn't great this year and thus he wanted to play low possession games to limit how many scoring chances others teams got. I think if Iowa is scoring efficiently we will see higher possession games. But I don't think we ever see the very high possession games that we saw under Fran. There were a number of times last year where I felt walking the ball up the court and wasting 8 seconds of shot clock limited them being able to get into a second or 3rd action and thus ended up with cruddy late shot clock shot options. For myself I'd like to see slightly faster paced games. I don't think the slower pace was because of Stirtz though. Stirtz was really good at not getting sped up by the defense and playing the pace he wanted to. Playing slower gives you the option of quickly getting to that second gear if defense gets flat footed.
