Clark's Clipboard: 4/3/26: NC State Football's Friday Visitors
Summary
NC State scrimmage: #1 offense scored FG, #2 on long pass; good receivers, CJ sacked once, Wilson scrambled well, O-line work-in-progress, D-front six solid.
Yes. It was closed to all but former players and invited guests. It was a controlled and scripted scrimmage. It looked like #1 Offense was against #2 Defense; and #2 Offense against # 1 Defense in the first sets of scrimmage. In the second half it was one against one and two against two. #1 offense scored first with a field goal. #2 offense scored on long pass in the next series. Unfortunately, there was no tackling so it was hard to assess the true capabilities of the offense or defense. It was clear we have some good receivers this year as they made some excellent contested catches. CJ was sacked once while Wilson had one good scramble for a big gain. I think the O-line is still a work in progress, but the defensive front six i thought played pretty well. Defense was allowed to game and it created some difficult blocking assignments. Our #1 kicker had a very nice contested field goal. The #2 kicker did not fair as well with an ugly miss from about 45 yards out. The offensive scheme looked pretty much as it did towards the end of last year. Looked like the tight ends are definitely going to be active this year as I counted around five passes to them in the scrimmage and pretty sure three different receivers (i did not watch but an hour of it). I will say that it was obvious the linebackers as a group looked pretty good. So hopefully the attention paid to this group may have paid off. Sorry I could not have more detail but with no program and sitting up high it was hard to spot all but the obvious players.
