Players, Staff are More Comfortable this Time Around
Summary
FCS/lower-tier transfers like those from Lehigh/Richmond/Charleston Southern rarely succeed at P5 level; Cam Ward exceptions rare; questioning their actual quality relative to peers.
Part of projecting any player in sports is making some assertions based on the data you currently have. I know there's also a chance in the future I could be wrong. That's fine, but wouldn't it be reasonable to say that most players from Lehigh, Richmond, Charleston Southern, and Western Carolina are playing a lower level of football? That's not to say they're bad people, but there are levels to athletic competition and not all players can make that adjustment. Yes, there have been instances of a Cam Ward out there but they are rare. I do not get a warm and fuzzy being sold on the hope that all the 'diamonds in the rough' are somehow coming to Carolina. For the players coming from established programs, if you were slated to play big time at Ohio State, Texas, Florida, or LSU wouldn't you stay there? As you've outlined, those programs have the capacity to pay significantly more. They have the best facilities and are treated like Gods in those towns. Because of this, I believe its fair to question how 'good' these players are relative to their peers. Just as I am making an assumption that the players will be 'mid', one would also be making an assumption saying that 'they'll be good just watch'. Except, one is more based on historical data and the other hope. As a fan, I have a lot of hope but I realize that doesn't count for much. I have never been able to hope a player be better at their craft and it worked.
