What we learned and what we still don’t know: Quarterback
Summary
QB's running ability likely restricted by Day; unclear if middle-field blind spot stems from coaching or awareness.
You didn't explicitly say this about what we don't know, but I think part of this is whether and how frequently he might use his legs to pick up yards when the pocket collapses. We know that if he is aware of the pressure, he can often get out of harms way. He seems elusive. But he rare took off running, which is likely a command from Day and not of his own decision-making. I do have to wonder if the "blind spot" over the middle is more because Day didn't want him throwing there or if he truly wasn't aware. One point of contention I have with what you say is that having a returning starter at QB doesn't happen often. Actually, having a returning starter is more common than you suggest. Stroud = 2 years as starter Fields = 2 years as starter Barrett = 3+ years as starter Miller = 2+ years as starter Pryor = 2+ years as starter Smith = 2 years as starter Krenzel = 2 years as starter Here are the 1 year (or less) starters by comparison: Howard, McCord, Haskins, Cardale, Zwick, and to some extent Boeckman (he was a little more than 1 year as a starter). This is dating back to 2002.
