NCAA Team to Root For
Summary
NIL should reward individual marketability; stop lump-sum collective payments tying players to transfer portal bidding wars.
I think the legit concept of NIL is fine. If you are marketable to a company or corporation then you should be able to sell you 'Name Imagine and likeness.' If people want to buy your jersey should be able to sell it. If a parent wants to hire you to come to their kids birthday party then fine. What needs to stop are just lump sum payments to players from collectives based on your position and how you hold out in the transfer portal for the highest bidder. The EA sports video game stuff..cut a check to the all the players in the game. Figure that in your pricing of the game. Ironically, the thing that the NCAA gave the ' student athletes' that they thought was going to be free and easy to the universities was the unlimited transfers without sit outs. That alone has caused the inflation of salaries and buying players. If you could lock a player in then you wouldn't have to go into crazy numbers to retain them each and every year. Kids are using this transfer stuff as leverage each year and driving up the market. Politicians that are passing state laws in the south to free NIL up from state income tax should be called out. That is a joke. Give them a free transfer if they graduate if they have the the xtra year. Let them transfer if the head coach leaves. Other than that, it better be a really good legit reason why you have a hardship.
