Kalen DeBoer gives player-by-player breakdown of Alabama's offensive line entering summer
Summary
Alabama OL concern: almost no starting experience beyond Delgatty (Cal Poly); urges DeBoer to hire elite OL coach
Well, the QB race may be interesting but how the OL shapes up is what will determine how well this team will be able to stand up to the competition next year. Which is why DeBoer’s comments concern me. Everything he said was “we’ll see about that” and “he’s progressing nicely” etc., etc.. Besides Delgatty, there is virtually no starting experience, and his is from Cal Poly. IMHO, if DeBoer wants to keep his job longterm, he should take about half (at least 1/4) of his salary and use it to hire the best, THE best, OL coach out there, whoever it is. I mean, it just seems practical to me. 3/4s of something for 20 years is a whole lot more than all of it for only three or four. I realize the complexion of the game has changed/is changing and we don’t know how BAMA expectations will adjust to the playoffs (whatever they wind up looking like), but I can guarantee you this: getting pushed around in the trenches, not being able to gain two yards when we need them and having our QB continually having to run around for his life is below Alabama expectations, no matter what the acceptable win-loss record is. DeBoer best understand that. Period.
