No neighborhood objections to USF stadium
Summary
USF’s enclosed campus and road layout make stadium objections different from Temple’s dense, cross-traffic campus.
NJOwl said... (original post) The arguments make sense BUT here’s the difference and it’s big one. I’ve been to their campus. It sits on nearly 1600 acres. TU sits on roughly 120 show more I don’t think the size of the campus really matters. The difference is that USF’s campus is a completely enclosed rectangle without any natural cross traffic. One could live across the street from USF and never drive through. It’s surrounded by three major roads and one smaller road. The stadium is actually being built on the east end of campus near the smaller road, which is being widened as a result. So the university and the local government came together on that. Temple’s geography is obviously 100 percent different with local residents driving through every day and a stadium on the edge of campus being right across the street from people’s homes. So I guess campus size matters in the sense that it gave Temple very limited options on where to build. But it’s much more about how the community traverses Temple’s campus on a daily basis while USF and local residents are essentially anonymous strangers.
