Summary
Top Betting/Intel Takeaways - Drake Lindsey's underage-drinking arrest was discussed as a minor college-kid issue, not an availability or discipline concern; the hosts did not report any football suspension risk. - Lindsey is treated as Minnesota's clear QB1 and a legitimate long-term NFL prospect because of size, pocket passing, arm strength, and how much responsibility he already handled. - The hosts said Lindsey's 2025/2026 production was similar to Max Brosmer's one-year Minnesota output despite being a young starter, and they expect growth if the supporting cast improves. - The WR room was blamed for early-season drops and lack of separation; improvement there is the biggest lever for unlocking a more explosive offense. - Darius Taylor staying healthy is viewed as a major offensive swing factor because it can change how defenses play Lindsey and the passing game. - Mike Shula's role is framed as QB development support, not a play-calling takeover; the hosts like the fit for Lindsey's next step. - Anthony Smith is viewed as the safest Minnesota draft-caliber player if healthy, with Drake Lindsey and Darius Taylor also in the early draft-radar group. - Greg Johnson and Ashton Beers are mentioned as draft-watch OL if Minnesota's line takes a clear step and the offense improves. - Secondary players Kerry Brown and John Nestor are under-the-radar draft candidates because Minnesota DBs have translated well to the NFL. - Schedule view: Indiana is the only S-tier game, while Washington, Iowa, and Penn State are A-tier difficulty. The hosts see a path to seven-plus wins if Minnesota handles the B/C-tier games. Game / Team Breakdowns - QB: Lindsey is 6-foot-5-plus, pocket-first, and already trusted with checks. The hosts believe he can become a high-end Big Ten QB if the WRs and OL reduce the early-game mistakes around him. - RB: Taylor's health is central. A full season from him makes the offense much more dangerous and gives Lindsey cleaner passing looks. - WR: Hayden Moore and Perry Thompson are part of the needed WR upgrade. The hosts want fewer drops and more consistent separation after last year's inconsistency. - OL: Johnson and Beers are the stability pieces. If they play like multi-year Big Ten starters, the entire offensive projection rises. - Defense: Minnesota's DB development pipeline is a positive signal for Brown and Nestor; the hosts trust that side of the ball to keep producing NFL-caliber players. - Schedule: F-tier: Eastern Illinois and Akron. C-tier: Mississippi State, Purdue, Wisconsin. B-tier: Michigan, UCLA, Northwestern. A-tier: Washington, Iowa, Penn State. S-tier: Indiana. - Market: No bet was released, but the episode supports a conditional over-style Minnesota outlook if Lindsey improves, Taylor stays healthy, and the WR/OL groups become average-to-good.
Podcast: Gopher Broke Podcast - A Minnesota Gophers Football Podcast Episode: Minnesota Gophers LIVE Offseason Talk + Drake Lindsey Just Being A College Kid + Tiering the 2026 Schedule for the Gophers Transcript: What up, you are listening to the Gopher Broke Podcast. We are getting it live here this evening, so hopefully y'all can tap in and join us. We're going to talk a whole lot of Gopher's football. And we're going to tie-tier the Gopher's 2026 schedule as well. We've got all sorts of things to talk about, so stay tuned, tap in, share it with your friends, and let's get it. What up, you are listening to the Gopher Broke Podcast. It's your boy, Kane Rob and Tristan Spanford coming at you live here on this Friday evening. There's just so many stories that came off that we were like, you know, it's been a minute. Like, we last week, Thursday was when we dropped the last show. So let's just do it live. Let's get after it. And it's fun. It's been a good time in Minnesota sports, but before we dive into some Gopher's Talk, Tristan Spanford, my boy, how are you doing? I'm doing incredible. I'm doing incredible. What a night for Minnesota sports last night. And also, people who are just listening on the audio media. Me and Kane got a, like, we looked like the light skin version of the Spy vs Spy game. It's getting white on white, and I'm going black on black right now. It's great. It's great. But, I mean, Timboles got a win, Wild got a win, twins got a win. No complaints. No complaints. I got a complaint. I got a complaint. You know, it's been tough. It's been tough, you boy. I'm going through a breakup. I'm going through a breakup. A 20 years together, and it has just been real hard on your boy, but, you know, I feel like I've always had love for another person. And so, you know, I'm just, I'm suffering from it a little bit. And after 20 years of, especially in the last six years, it's been rocky. It's been like, there's been the highest of highs, right? But there's been just a lack of effort, a lack of care. It just feels like, like, I'm giving more than they have. More than they are giving, and I just, it's not healthy for your boy. So, you know, your boy is officially hitting the transfer portal. And I'd like to announce my commitment. I'm coming home. I'm coming home. You know, Timboles have always been the 1B for me in the NBA. You know, anytime they didn't play the Celtics, I was always there. Being on the West versus the East, it's always been okay. But the timber will scrap, and they got heart, and I need a heart. I need care. And you know what, the Celtics, we're just friends now. You know, it's an amicable break-up. We're going to be friends. You know, I'll still always cheer for them when they're not playing the Wolves, but it's time to come home. It's time to come home. Now, will your tune change if they just route the 76ers in Game 7 tomorrow? No, no, I mean, look, I said I love, you know, like I said, the Wolves have been 1B, Celtics have been 1A for 20 years, but it's time. So I'm not saying I'll never, I'll never cheer for the Celtics. No, they're still not 1B. You know, they're still in the East. I can route for them. But it was just too much, too much, dog. Like going down 3O to the Heat in 2023, just because they didn't try, lose into the Warriors in 2022 because the lack of effort, the Knicks last year, we were up, came on in Game 2 by 20. And they were like, oh, we're just too good for this, you know. And they get busted. And then I watch it happen again with the 76ers. They say, fool me one time, shame on me. Fool me two times. I think it's fool me one time shame on you. Fool me two times. Shame on me. Fool me three. It's been like four, five, six times. I'm done. I get it. They compete. I want heart. It's not about the winning. It is about the fight, the dog, the scrap. And that's what the Timberwolves have. And you know what? I've always been with them, but now I'm with them just a little bit more, just a little bit more. So I'm allowed to get to the people. I've put it here live for the folks over on YouTube. We locked in. Welcome. Welcome. Welcome. Last night was great. And then watching the dude, we had like six players. It just didn't even matter. It didn't even matter. We just son the nuggets. Like we just made them our child. And then afterwards, none of them even wanted to. Jaden talking all series. And then he's like, well, it's done now. I don't even want to talk about it. We're on to the next one. It's great. You love it. We got to get an add back and we are going to be rolling. And what I'll say is don't count them out because they are heading into this first series. They're going on the road for the first two games. Look, if you can split one of those two and then get an add back, I gained three. It's a whole new ball game. It's zero zero at that point. Best of five. And that game. So yes, the wolves got a chance. But let's let's shake it up. You know, this is a Gover podcast and I just I had a little dramatic. You didn't have a gripe. So I had to put it out there. But we're going to move over to the Gover's talk. And the first thing is the latest headline. And it is a doozy. I don't know. I don't even want to take this headline dog. Drake Lindy got arrested down in his hometown. For underage drinking. He's 20 years old. He turns 21 in August. And this decided that it needed to be a huge story. I actually heard about it this morning before anything broke. And I said, I am not touching that story with a 10 football. Like absolutely no interest in breaking anything about that because it's stupid. Why are we doing this to the kid? Like let the kid live. There's no way he should have been arrested for something like this yet alone. I knew the second somebody you're in with that people were going to take his mugshot. People were going to do all these things. It's like, come on dog. Like. It's I get it if it's something like crazy or bad or like whatever. But we're talking about an underage drinking for a dude who went back home. Like Tristan, how you feeling about this? Now I have a 13 year old. I have a teenager. So I will say at first I waited because I waited for the facts to come up. As long as nobody was hurt. He wasn't doing anything silly. It sounds like he was just at home with his friends at a bar. Which right away I was like, yep, that's my QB one. That's my QB one. You know I love that. I absolutely love that my quarterback is a dog on the field and a totally normal human being doing normal college kids stuff outside of football. Like it's now granted if it's if it's a problem. I will I will change my mind on that. I don't want him to have any problems with drinking. But I'm saying the headline to me read college student arrested for doing college student things. So I, hey, I had a fake ID. I had two fake IDs. You got you just existing. He's just having being a normal human being as long as he's being responsible and no one's getting hurt. He's not doing anything to hurt himself or anyone around him. I do be college kid be college kid. I'm with you. I like the comment that came in again. If you have comments, you got to drop them on YouTube. They don't show up on Twitter feed. But we appreciate you all for listening. But don't they just write a violation and send you on your way anymore. I feel you. I feel you like what are we doing? Here's what I like the conspiracy theories going on over on Twitter because people are like dog somebody recognized him in Arkansas. And they were like, hey, hey, he didn't commit to the hogs. He didn't commit to the heart. So that boy is underage. Go get him. He didn't even play for us. Get over yourself. Come on, dog. Come on. What are we doing here? Let my boy live. Let my boy. I don't know if you're seeing the memes out there. I don't know if you're seeing it. They're dropping them on the JJ McCarthy. The meme. But then he got girls with the chain. I'm like, okay, and people are putting the headshots next to Baker Mayfield. And they're like, you know what comes next? The Heisman comes next. I'm here for it. I'm here for it. Drake Lindsey. We support you. Let's get it. Let's come home. The Drake Lindsey mugshot t-shirt is going to go so hard on Friday. Well, this. I mean, I really wish that it would have just stayed away because he didn't need all that. I mean, I'm glad Gopher Nation is out here and got his back, but he didn't need that negative publicity, especially after getting a ton of positive publicity just like a day beforehand, which we'll talk about a little bit here when we talk about gophers in the draft. That's going to be one of the things that we're talking about already in early look on people who could be on draft right after for next year. But before we do that, we got to talk about Wisconsin dog because you and I, we were texting back and forth. We saw something pop up on Twitter and I didn't realize until I sent you the text, but Wisconsin, the Badgers dog, they're just, it gets worse and worse for them. Every day that passes, things are going down. Wisconsin didn't have a single player selected in the NFL draft. And that is for the first time since 19. So it's 1978. How are you feeling, my boy? What about Wisconsin? One thing about me, I will never say a bad thing about Wisconsin. You know, it's a reputable program. I'm not going to make any jokes. Me? Me? It's hilarious. It's the funniest thing ever, dog. Like, we talk about it every year we play them that we've turned slowly morphed into a big brother in this relationship after we just, they just dog walked us for how many years. And it just feels good. It just feels like it's a good thing. It feels good to not have that tied to our name. So maybe next year, maybe next year was always next year. Just be good at football. Have they tried being good at football? Look, the Badgers fans ran with the Drake-Loo oncey thing and they were like, look, our program is a better culture. I'm like, hold on, we're talking about underage drinking in Wisconsin. Could never be them. Can we call this space? What are we doing here? But no, I love the collapse that is happening piece by piece in front of us. They keep losing the axe. The Bull Street gets eviscerated. The quarterbacks are heard every year. They can't run the ball back to back seasons under 500. No draft picks. Hello, mediocrity. Welcome. We saw it for a decade, two decades. We know what it looks like. So I'm telling you. Welcome. Because we are on the way up in Wisconsin. I'm telling you, you are on the way down. Whether you like it or not. So welcome to the bottom. It's a dark road. It's a dark road. But hey, it's got to turn around. It's all over the light. Yeah, follow the light. We saw that light. We kept walking. You know, you can maybe someday, maybe someday. But speaking of the draft, speaking of, since they didn't have any draft picks, we did have one. Congratulations to Devin Eastern getting in drafted to the Seattle Seahawks. The Super Bowl champions. They were like Devin Eastern is a guy that we definitely need to have on the squad. And I am happy for him. He can go eat on a defense that was one of, if not top two in the entire NFL last year. So you absolutely love to see that shouts out to the boy that keeps our draft streak going. I believe PJ has had a person drafted every single year since he's been here. And I don't think that's slowing down. I don't think that's slowing down. In fact, next year might be a huge year for the Govers. What are you thinking are some players that could actually be on the draft radar heading into next season? Going into when you sent over the sheet for this week, I was like, okay, there's a few. There's a lot of names that could potentially, if the Govers can perform well, I think there's a ton of names that could get drafted. I got a list here. We got Drake Lindsey, Anthony Smith, Darius Taylor, obviously the top three. And even Drake Lindsey, I have him on there, but I don't hate the idea of him staying one more year after. I think I do too, but I think if he has a super solid year, we're talking to dude who's 65 to 30 and a true pocket passer. Like coaches are going to be salivating at that for the NFL, especially when you have so many more younger quarterbacks who want to be like mobile quarterbacks and moving around. I think it is extremely refreshing to have a guy, not that Drake can't run, but he can sit in the pocket and he'll swing it. Kerry Brown, Nathan Roy, Greg Johnson, harder men's. We don't know what TJ Busch is as a golfer yet, but if he can translate to the big tent and like he played at Cal, TJ Busch is definitely innate. There's a ton of dudes that Maverick Berenowski even that we kind of could hit the board all over the place from first to seventh brown guys. Like there's a lot of names of guys that if they decide to go to be potential draft picks. Yeah, I definitely think it'll all depend on how we play this season. Yeah, I mean, lots of lots of dudes have the potential to really blow up this year. I think there's a lot of guys that probably stick it out. Like you mentioned, Nathan Roy, I feel like, yes, yes, the potential, but I think he's a guy that'll stick around for a bit. But guys on my list that I think have realistic draft shots, I think it's a lot of good stuff. I think it's a lot of guys that stick around for a bit. But guys on my list that I think have realistic draft shots at this moment. If the season ended today and it was based on basically previous tape, I think Anthony Smith is a lock to be a draft pick. Hopefully he goes day one, but day one day too, probably right in there. If he can stay fully healthy this season. I think he's got his name in the top four rounds. I think Greg Johnson and Ashton Beers both having a two full years as a starter in the Big Ten on an O-Line. If they can go and have even just decent season this year, I think they will get looks. If they have a big season, if we have huge steps in the offensive line play, if Drake is out there dropping dimes left and right in this Gopher's offense takes a leap that comes with the offensive line, having some success and that comes with the staples being in their third year of starting. So they'll start to get looks. You mentioned Maverick Baranowski. I think two names that don't get enough love that I think could absolutely be in draft radars. Kerry Brown, like you had mentioned, and John Nestor. I think those two guys could have absolute potential to sneak in like a Jordan Houghton where you're talking fourth, fifth round and you're like, whoa, yeah, okay, that's my boy. John Nestor last year, I believe he was either first or second in the entire Big Ten in Interception. If he has another big interception year and he holds down the fort, he can put his name easily in draft conversations. You talked about keeping that secondary tradition live. That's going to help them. The past gophers going to the draft is going to help those two names specifically because the secondary has been showing up in winning starting jobs. You're talking about Jordan Houghton. You're talking about Tyler Neub and Antoine Winfield, Justin Wall, even though he tore his ACL last year, he was on track to start for the Colts. Terrell Smith was a starter at times. That's a ton of DBs in the league right now. Ethan Robinson went undrafted, scrapped his way under the roster, played a couple games last year. So I think Carrie Brown and John Nestor, if they have seven out of ten seasons, I think both of them are on draft radars and probably hearing their names call as well. I want 100% agree. There's something about this defense that translates very well to the NFL. I think that is going to be known in the league because we do get a lot of guys who are still hanging around. You just named off a ton of dudes. They're starters in the league that play at a very high level that come out of Minnesota. Absolutely. And once again, if you are tapped in live, if you're on Twitter or YouTube, first off, thank you so much. Hit subscribe over on YouTube. But if you want your comments shown throughout the podcast, be sure to go over to YouTube. Twitter, for some reason, the comments don't come through on our stream, but the YouTube ones do. We're going to have to hit up Riverside and get that fixed here in the very near future because Twitter, we need the Twitter comments as well. But let's keep talking here. I want to talk about Drake Lindsay a little bit because Nate Tice, who is well known in the draft world, was doing his film study. He was getting ready to drop his way to early top 25 draft names for 2027. And he dropped it. And you're seeing Archmaning up at the top. You're seeing Dante Moore. You're seeing these guys that you've been hearing about for about a year now. You've been hearing seeing a lot of things comes in at number 24, Drake Lindsay. Drake Lindsay. Now, look, I'm not trying to set anybody up for failure and say like, Oh, now, yeah, he's got to be drafted as a top pick or otherwise. It was a terrible problem. I think it's nice. It's nice to see his name in the conversation getting respect because that means the eyes that are used to watching these films and seeing what NFL teams have a tendency to enjoy. Or like or want or desire. They're seeing that from his red shirt freshman tape. And again, I don't think he's going to leave at the end of this year. I think he stays at least one more year. So you put together a good red shirt sophomore season and you get the interest even higher. Maybe you blow up. Maybe you have a 3000 yard passing season, a 25 touchdown passing season. All of a sudden, people are like, Oh, yeah, this kid is on the radar. But the elements that are going to get this kid drafted in the future, I believe he will be drafting the future, whether it's in 27, whether it's in 28, whether it's in 29, he's got three more years to really do this thing. The things that are going to get him drafted are the pre snap and the post snap things he does because. Cereberely, this quarterback is a dog. He is out there making run checks. He is making all sorts of different checks for the team. And that's what's going to stand out to a lot of these coaches. When they get into the boardroom and they get to talk about it, they're going to be like this kid is the real deal. Now we said that a little bit about Max Brosmer too. But Max Brosmer, you think about it. He only had one year to prove it. Drake wins. He's going to have up to three to four years to prove it on film. Max Brosmer only had one year in the FBS, but when he did do it and he had a pretty decent season overall. The numbers Drake wins he just put up as a redshirt freshman are very similar to what Max Brosmer did in his one year with the golfers. So like I said, Drake gets to build on that. But that one year of tape from Max got him to the NFL Combine. Look, he got to go to the NFL Combine. He was in draft talks. He was being talked about it. He didn't get drafted ultimately. We thought he'd maybe go to the wrong six, wrong seven, but he didn't. He gets picked up by the Vikings as an undrafted free agent. He starts a whole game. Now look, I know we don't need to talk about the starts. We don't need to talk about what happened. But what I'm all of that is to say how. Was cerebral as a quarterback helped him get to the position that he can get to. Now you're talking about having something similar to that with a 6'5", 235", 240-pound quarterback that's going to have three to four years starting in the Big 10. That's why I'm so confident saying as long as he continues to just progress, not even like take off, but just continues to progress, this kid will get dropped. Absolutely. Like I think, like I said before, like coaches and quarterback coaches and GMs are going to look at him and just based on his measureables, they have to pay attention to him. If he can keep growing, another thing we didn't really even touch on is the fact that our wide receiver room didn't do him any favors last year, especially at the start of the season. They had a really slow start and the drops in the first few games, like he still finished the year with what? Like 64% completion? I don't know. I'm an idiot, so that could be completely wrong. I'm pretty sure. I think it was like 62. If I'm going between 16 and 52, there were a couple of stinker games in there, but overall, for a first-year starter, like if this wide receiver room can also mature with him and they lock in right away, because the throws were there and the passes they were making, it was just drops. There was a lot of ugly drops in the beginning of the year. His numbers would have looked even better. So I think that that also plays a factor into it that he's making the right decision. There was times where, hey, we have a drop here, a drop there. So that is also a factor. If he can keep growing and getting better and keep making the right decisions, I really think he has the potential to go in those first two days. If we can get some wins, if we can rattle off some wins and keep being competitive in the Ohio State games, the Indiana games, I think he will definitely get some wins. Yeah, I know Nate Tyson was dropping a couple of his videos while he was doing the analysis, and he was just dropping a couple of the dot throws that he was just pure arm down. You look at it and you're like, holy crap. And those were against Oregon. Those were against, even in the Iowa game, which is by far his worst game of the year, there were still one or two passes that make you go holy crap. And it's like if he continues to build on that and that starts to become more of the norm, that's where Nate Tyson's like, this kid could absolutely be a top pick. And I tend to agree with him. I want to know your thoughts on what do you think his ceiling could be statistically. If we build on last season, last season, I believe he had like 2,300 yards and 18 touchdowns. I look that up as I go just to be sure. But if we build on it, we don't take a step back or anything like that. We just continue to build. What do you think the ceiling for Drake Lindsey is knowing? Year two of Jalen Smith, so he's in the system. He's understanding things a little bit better. Javan Tracy Year two in the system, understanding things a little bit better. Then there's some newer names to the group. Hayden Moore is a name to Noah Jennings is a name who has probably the lead track to the wide receiver free position right now. Perry Thompson was a guy they brought into the portal. We'll see how he factors into this room. But knowing that he's got more weapons and they need to create the separation still, but how he can build on it. He had 2,382 yards and 18 passing touchdowns. What do you think could he potentially do year two if he continues to run to top of all that? You also added a healthy Darius Taylor all year. And that completely changes the offense as well. We talk about how many all purpose yards he finishes years with in the past. I mean, it's easily 3,000 yards and he could have 2530 touchdowns. It's not unreal. It's not unrealistic. I don't think by any means. You know, if it's a lot of this added in there, but I mean, we're speaking in hypotheticals. So, you know, like if the wide receiver room can get the separation and we don't have those ugly drops, I think it's absolutely doable. Even if we're not talking like we have a bunch of wins, this offense could be could be extremely explosive. If we have all those, if everything adds up. Right. Now I'm with you 100%. And I think one thing people need to remember too is Mike Shula is coming into this room on the coaching staff as well. Mike Shula, when he was brought into this specific position for the South Carolina Game Cocks is when we learned about Lenora Sellers and we watched him ball out and we watched him. Do some magic. Now people look at Mike Shula and they're like, oh yeah, but he was offense coordinator last year and then Lenora's got worse and it's like that's terrible. But we're not bringing him in here to be the offensive coordinator. We're bringing him in here to work with Drake the same way he worked with Lenora's in his blow up here. So you get that factor with a quarterback who's already had smart quarterback who's already got a gun for an arm and then you go back and you look at the stats of last year. I mean, game two last year, he only had nine pass attempts for 139 yards on a touchdown against Northwestern State. We pulled him in the first quarter. If you give him that full game, that's another what? 200 yards on top of that that you can add to the total. That puts him at 2500, almost 2600 yards on the season. You probably would have two more touchdowns in that game too. That puts him at 20 touchdowns. So if you give him the full Northwestern State game last year, you're talking about a quarterback that had about 26 hundred yards and 220 touchdowns. And you're asking him to improve on that. You're asking the old line to improve. You're asking him to have a healthy running backroom. You're asking him to have better wide receiver options. Like there's 100 percent like people might look at him and be like 3000 and 25 to 30 touchdowns. Like it's in the playing card. It's not impossible. It's not even unrealistic. It's not like a pipe dream. It's like if we see semi progress in that 2700 to 3000 yards season is not impossible. If the offense progresses, even just slightly. I agree. We again, you get a healthy Darius Taylor. We have a wide receiver room where we had guys who we talked about. You know, we were looking for that that that star who's going to be the number one receiver. But it's not like we don't have three guys, three or four guys who have the potential to be that. And now we bring more guys in offensive line. Basically the same. We get rid of a few guys who weren't really affecting the team that much anyways. And we bring more guys in. More guys are moving up like the offense is not very worried about the offense. If everyone stays healthy, I think we might be a dangerous team in the big 10. There's hope. There is hope for sure. And one name that I'm going to be writing about here. I'm hoping to drop the article here in the next couple days. But life has been hectic over this week. Something about Hayden Moore. I've talked to his high school coach now a little bit. I reached out to a strength coach in here. But I'm going to drop it. You're a big J. Journalist. You're a big J. I don't know why you're fighting. I'm not one of his high school coach. You're reaching out and take it. It takes a tweet. It takes a tweet. That's all it takes. But no, I'm excited to drop a little bit about Hayden Moore because the coaching staff seems excited about him. The fan base is starting to get more excited about him. And so I wanted to write a little sum about him. So that'll be coming out over at on three here soon. I'm also going to be doing a column with your questions. Listener questions every first Sunday of the month. So this Sunday I'm hoping to drop that first one. I already had the questions. It's going to be a good one. So tap in there. But I'm with you. I'm excited about Drake Lindsey. I'm excited about this wider Seever room. And I want to move on to our final topic of today. Might be a little bit shorter of a show. But hey, we're doing it live. So I'm okay with it. Let's talk about cheering the gopher's schedule. So this was a listener request. We had someone reach out on Spotify, which really well didn't know you could comment on Spotify. Learning that as we go here just been dropping shows on the on the feed. And then all of a sudden I went in to drop one and it's like a notification bar with like four notifications. I was like, huh? And we had a bunch of different comments from people that I just didn't see. So just know we're going to see them now. It might take a little time, but we're going to get to. But somebody said, can we get a can we get a pod with a big 10 game review going by difficult difficulty by difficulty and tearing them. So like an S tier and an A tier B tier C tier. We're going to skip the D tier and go F tier. But on the gophers 2026 schedule, we are going to tear it out for this season. Now, the one thing I want to shout out is it's not just going to be big 10. We're going to do those schedules. So the three non conferences as well. And we're doing this on the fly. So bear with us. But I am going to go in order of the schedule here and we're going to drop them and then we can review it and shift and see what our final tiers are going to be here. But Tristan, I've got the schedule pulled up in front of me here. Let's talk about game one game one as a versus the Eastern Illinois Panthers. I believe is the look mask on me. And then correct me. Tell us what tier we're going to put those in since we couldn't even put those right to the F tier. We've got to win that game right to the F tier. Huh? I mean, we didn't even know we're still looking at the next. You don't know what the other boys. You ain't wrong. Hey, I do know Jimmy Garoppolo alumni of the Eastern Illinois. It is the Panthers. Eastern Illinois Panthers Jimmy G. is there was there quarterback. So they've had a little bit of talent come through. Handsome fella. Handsome fella. Alright, if you wanted to know they had a season last year where they went three and nine. They had one power conference opponent, which was Bama for their final game of the year. And they lost 56 to zero. The year before that. They played Illinois and Northwestern. They lost Illinois by 45 to 0 in Northwestern 31 to 7. That was 2024 and they went 3 and 9 on the season. So yeah, I'm with you. After. Let's just make it easy. That's not mean. That's not mean. That's just non-conference. That's just non-conference play. It's not mean. It's just real facts or facts and I'm not here for your feelings. I'm sorry about it. So next game on the schedule. I'm curious to know where you're going to put this one. We've got Mississippi State. We've got an SEC school. They've got a pretty decent coach out there and everybody's talking up their quarterback in Camario Taylor. I believe this is last name. What are you thinking when it comes to the Mississippi State Bulldogs SEC school? Last season they were. It's a pointing. Five and eight. They were five and eight. They made it to a bowl game as a five and 17 and they lost the bowl game. They actually played the Duke's mailbox lost to Wake Forest 43 to 29. So they just really went out with the football team. They were just really Dawn.lo. How are we feeling about the Mississippi State Bulldogs? Yeah,. I mean I I feel like we can't disrespect him it's SEC football. Even though Big Ten owns the SEC they gotta have some good guys on that team. Do you feel A or B? I think B? I think B is fair. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. I'm putting C. I'm putting C in their lucky. It's not F. I'm going back and looking their best season in the 2020 era. Okay, the 2020 era. The best season is 2021 7 and 6. Otherwise 2020 they went 4 and 7 2020. Oh, I lied. Their best season is 2022. They went 9 and 4. That was the best season. 2022 was 9 and 4. Okay, listen to this now. 2023, 5 and 7, 2024, 2 and 10, 2025, 5 and 8. Like their last three years, they've got 12 wins in the last three years combined. I don't know. I put too much respect on them. Put them in the C tier. Put them in the C tier. That's fine with me. Yeah, I got it. I got to see it to believe it. You know, they're out there talking about this quarterback, Camario Taylor, talking about he could be the real dealer and all this stuff. You know, many times we've heard that. We heard that about Jeff Sims. We heard about that about all these little running quarterbacks that the Gophers defense shuts down. And you know what? I'm going to feel the same. Oh, no. You remember? Wasn't Pop Watson one of them name you was going to learn about? Pop Watson? We were going to have to learn Pop Watson. I remember the Virginia Tech fans talking to me in the whole week. Like, you're ready to learn Pop Watson, dog. What happened? Pop Watson got benched in that game for somebody else. I learned that this Gophers defense doesn't mess around. And now they've got Anthony Smith back. They got TJ Glush. They got Carter Mann. That D line is going to be nasty. Miss Civ state C tier. We're done. Love us. All right. Let's go. Next game Akron. We've got the Akron again. I'm skipping on these mask out games right now. Akron is in the Mac though. I know that part the zips. OK, zips. Interesting name. Interesting name overall. They've got us after they take on Wake Forest and Robert Morris. So I feel like they might start out either one in two or three. I'm not really worried about Akron 2025. They went five and seven. 2024. They went for an eight. 2023. They went to intent. Look, I'm putting them in the acronym. The school you take on and see double A to try to win a national championship with. That's that's what you do. That you don't do that. Give yourself a challenge. You do that so that way you can get promoted to a new school very quickly. There as soon as possible. But otherwise, Akron. The only reason I know Akron is because LeBron Pocham. That's it. I'm sorry. Like that's that I'm going to call it spade. Like we said, and LeBron is the only reason I know what that name Akron. Well, I mean, in action. You love. We love him. Action. Because I look, I'm down with action. Don't don't get me wrong. I'm not this is like a action. I could have forgot that the Akron was in the Mac because how the relevant they are. They were in the Mac. Right. Right. You give me to the mother team in Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan. Ball State, I believe in the Mac. Look, I. I'm not with them, but I'm sorry, Akron. I forgot you were there. You're on the back. This year we'll sit down on a Wednesday night and watch the Mac. Well, just happen that there's a lot of work being done in that sentence with the word we because you didn't mention them. They were going to be doing. All right. Now we're heading into the big 10 season. Let's talk about the Washington. Here's keys on the road. I feel like now we're going to have to start taking into account where the game is to tear it out in this too because that could make a huge difference. Washington to me is going to be one of the most hostile environments that the golfers play in this entire season. And that is saying that with Indiana on the schedule with Penn State on the schedule with Madison or Wisconsin on the schedule. I think Washington might be the second, if not the hardest home environment or a way environment that the golfers are going to have to play at. So for me, that puts them at here automatic. I was thinking at here and when we get them in the schedule kind of puts them at S tier for me because we're coming off of hopefully three wins. And one thing I know about college kids after they rattle off three easy wins. They definitely don't think they're invincible and are going to just don't have to do anything to win the next game. So I think traveling, we know this team doesn't travel well. So that is going to be a very difficult win. I'm going to keep it at here. I'm going to keep it at here because because of what you just said, I think that because they are likely to go three and all or hopefully they're three and all at that point. I think you could slip up and get a little excited, but because they didn't win a single game on the road last year, they're not going to be playing out. They're like, we got to take care of business. We can't overlook anything. We're going on the road. Let's go get our first whirlwind in over 365 days. So I'm going to put Washington in the A tier for difficulty because I think the gophers are going to have a different motivation heading into that game. All right. Next game on the schedule, we are talking about Michigan at home. Now Michigan, it's a blue blood school. They're constantly in the conversation. New head coach. I don't know if I believe in their quarterback if I'm being 100 percent, but he's talented. They call this kid like Lamar Jackson talented. I don't know if he can throw the ball like Lamar Jackson, but he sure has helped him run the ball similar. So what do you feel about the Michigan Wolverines? I do like their new coach. I think he's a good coach. I think he could do some things. I've heard he is active in that transfer portal. I mean, as one should be. But yeah, race underwood, making a billion gazillion dollars, but I just haven't seen it yet. And again, like you said, he's so athletic and so talented, but if you bottle him up, if the defense bottles him up, we can win this game, especially being at home. Because I think, I mean, the bank is a slept on environment, especially when it's still warm outside. These men and so things get round. Um, what do you think? Beat here? I'm going to be here. I'm comfortable with being here. I was feeling B, but I feel like I got to put a little bit of credit until we see it too. I feel like we should say a. I mean, they were. They were still after. They're still S tier. They're still S tier above the A tier. So it's not putting them at the best here. Like they're not the best, but I don't. I don't know. It's tough. Let's see how many times they want. I think they won eight. I feel like they want eight or nine. I think they were right there with the gophers. Because in the, in the, I can't remember if I looked at it. It just isn't, but there's a lot of unknowns. There's a lot of unknowns, but it's still missing in. They were nine games, nine games last year. Their losses during the season were number 18, Oklahoma. They lost by 11. They lost to USC by almost 20. And then they lost to Ohio State 27 and nine. Otherwise the teams they beat. You know, looking at the teams, they beat. I'm not super impressed. They beat New Mexico, who we also beat in New Mexico. They beat Central Michigan. We both would be central Michigan. They beat Nebraska. We beat Nebraska. They beat Wisconsin. We beat Wisconsin. They beat Washington, which Washington was good last year. They beat Michigan State. We beat Michigan State. They beat Purdue. We beat Purdue. They beat Northwestern. We did not beat Northwestern. Now granted, I believe they beat Northwestern by a game winning field. And Northern Washington, like they almost given people hell last year. They were just hanging around. So I feel like, honestly, if you look at just last year, they were a similar tier to the gophers. I'm going to go with you. I'm going to go. All right, Michigan fans are, if they find this, they're going to have an absolute fit about that. They're going to sound like Denver Lugget fans, but that's okay. We're here for the smoke. We're in Ohio State friendly podcast. We had some Ohio State listeners. They gave us some love. They whooped our butt, but they gave us some love afterwards. So you know what? We'll rock with the Buckeyes. We'll put Michigan in the first. So many. All right. This is courteous. courteous winners. Only night because they stole Phillip Daniels, so they're like, I guess we can make it. Sure. All right, let's go to Purdue, at Purdue, on the road to Purdue, but Purdue is coming off of two absolutely booty seasons, like BTA, belt two, as seasons. They almost upset us in the weirdest game every last year, but we still found a way. Look, I'm between C and F. I'm almost ready to say F, maybe because it's on the road, I say C. But I don't know. I got them in F. It's a basketball school. I mean, they did almost BTA last year. They really did, but did they beat us or did we beat ourselves? Did they win that? Did they almost win or did we try really hard to lose? I feel like we gotta put them in here. Are they the same? They're not the same as Akron in Eastern Illinois. You look at those two games, you're like easy dub, not thinking about it. You look at Purdue and you're like, should be an easy dub, but it's a big time screen. I was putting them in the C tier is probably the nicest thing we've said about Purdue on this since this podcast has been created. Who would you take Purdue or Mississippi State? I think I take Mississippi State, dog. I mean, but we if it's close, we're saying this is perfect in the city. You're right. You're right. You're right. Okay. See to your Purdue Purdue in the C tier, not the worst here. Just the second worst team in the big 10. Hey, we got it. Ohio State fan asking from earlier, isn't Bowling Green in the Mac? Yes. Okay. But we exercise those demons. We exercise those demons in a bowl game where we had a quarterback who threw for like 12 yards and we still found a way to bully them. We don't need to reread the Bowling Green. Okay. Akron is not Bowling Green. We're just we're just gasin up the Ohio State fans and he got to bring up the house. Yeah, we have old Ohio State credits and that's how you going to come at us. Man, go Michigan in the eighth year. Forget it. No, no, no, no, let's get it. Keep going. Iowa. Iowa. The Iowa Hawkeyes. Look, other schools might not give them enough credit. We have to because they have our number and I look, I've been hurt too many times. I can't not give them credit. It's at Minnesota. I think if it was at Kinick Dog, I think if it was at Kinick, I would put them in the last year because I'd be like, we just struggle and going on the road in Kinick is a different beast. But because it's at home and because their quarterback situation looks like absolute dog trash, I'm ready to put them either in the A tier or the B tier. I would lean A because they have our number and we have to prove it like just like if I had Nebraska right now, I'd be tempted to put them as low as possible because we have their number. And it just doesn't feel like they're ever going to beat us. I'm sure that that's how Iowa fans feel about us. So I want to give some respect and give them A tier. What do you mean? I mean, I think I 100% agree. It's either S or A. But I like A because we have them at home. All right, I think we're in agreement there. We got the national champions on the road at Indiana. That's going to be a tough game. The last day of October, the Halloween game, which unfortunately it's not in Minnesota. So we won't see the costumes for that one. That maybe would give us some extra spark that June. So we're going to be. Yeah, we're going to be in Bloomington. And so for me, you know how I'm not it. I was going to say, you know how much credit I give curse Ignetti. I'm not going to count against him again until he shows me we can count against. I'm putting a mess here. Respect. Respect. What if we shot the world? What if we shot? Hey, I'm not saying we can't start the world. I'm just saying they're S tier. So I can't wait for the predictions show. This time. The prediction show. We still got some time to that one. I got to digest. We got to do some breakdowns. I actually learned about these teams. So be sure to hit subscribe if you haven't already because we're going to get into the nitty gritty details and talk about these teams as we go. But we're moving on to the next one. You see L.A. Look, you see L.A. has been down bad. But they bring it in a coach who's had some success. They're quarterback's all right. I think people give him too much credit still. Nico, I'm a lead. But I think I would put UCLA in the B tier. It's at Minnesota. So we'll have home field. That makes me feel a little bit better. But I can't put them in C tier. Like they're not the same as Mississippi State Purdue. I'm going to give some respect there. Even when they had homeboy that could not coach and I ragged on him all the time here. They still took us to the wire when we were at UCLA. We beat him at the end with Max Brosmer. I think I'm ready to give him B tier. Let him prove it a little bit. But I think it's going to be tougher than the Gophers. Yeah, that's I think I think B tier is perfect because I'm not putting them in the same categories per do. But I'm not putting them in the same category as Iowa either. B tier is right where they need to be. Yeah. Yeah. All right. Next one's going to be tough. I'm going to let you lead the charge here. Next game is at Penn State at Penn State November 14th. Now, remember new coach. I basically am not even thinking about them as Penn State. I'm thinking about them as Iowa State right now because they took so many players from Iowa State. With the head coach over to Penn State. It makes it interesting. You know, if this was Penn State Penn State, I'd be like, it's going to be tough. We had him down to the wire here at home when they had drew a lard and a wall and Max Brosmer took him down to the wire. But now we're on the road. But new coach. I have a debate. What are you thinking? I think I don't know what Penn State is. But going to Happy Valley. And November 12th. That 14th feels like a white out game that feels like right when they're going to throw in a white out game where against an opponent that they've historically owned. If let's look at their bedroom. Did they release do that? Don't they just don't they release it closer to the scene? I'm not saying that they already announced the white out game. I'm saying, are there other games around us that would be more white out. It just feels like a good win. The game before that's at. Never mind. So November 21st after us as Rutgers, the home game before us is Purdue. I don't know. I think the way I look at the schedule, either you're going to be right and it's going to be us on this game. Or it's going to be an early white out game and they do it versus USC on October 10th. Otherwise, there are other home games are Wisconsin, Purdue, Rutgers, us and USC. So it's either going to be us or yeah. I think you're you're you're. So I'm nervous about that, which makes me I feel like I'm going to put him in the A tier. I don't know. I can't put him in the same tears UCLA. But they're also so much unknowns with Penn State that who knows what we're going to get. You know, but they're still getting recruits. But we don't know what the team looks like. No, I respect that. I respect that. I can't put him in the same tears Indiana. No, I think if we had an Oregon, if we had an Ohio state, we can put them up there. But I just don't see Penn State in that same category right now until they prove it. So I'm with you. A tier's fine. All right. This would be interesting. Northwest. We they've beat us the last two times. They had no business beating us in either one of those games. We absolutely gave it away in both of those games. But now we can overlook them. I think if the golfers had walked away with those two wins and you're talking about having beat them like the last four or five times we played them, I'll put them in C tier. But because they beat us twice. I don't know. Both of those games. Cabiat. Cabiat. Both those games were on the road. One was at Regley Field. One was at their home field way back when this game this year is at Huntington Bank Stadium. Does that change anything? It does. But we talked about it. I mean, we got to respect. We got to respect. We did. It's the same concept of Nebraska. No matter how good Nebraska looks until they show it until they beat us. They're not going to be, you know, they're not going to be in the B tier A tier. Like, I think we got to put them in B. I mean, they own us. They own us right now. They don't know. They've just beaten us the last two times. We just we just got to beat them. But it wasn't even them. It was absolute collapse by us. Yeah, that's true. We got to give them all the soul. I can't put a win. I can't put them with the do and. Yeah. I can't put them there. We'll put them B tier. There should be a tier between B and C right now and they'd be perfect for that. But right now we will just. Oh, that's a good point too. Chip Kelly is at Northwest. Yeah. And I forget, Aiden child's transferred from Michigan State to Northwestern. So Chip Kelly within child. Yep. Let's be here. Let's be here. It's easier now. Thank you. You helped me out on that. I appreciate the commenters. I love this. The chat. We haven't said yet. I feel it. I feel it. It's really good. Pause. Get podcasts and get to call out the chat. Shut up to the chat. Let's get it. All right. Last one. The Wisconsin Badgers. We just got done. Reagan. We just got talking to the talk. It's either B or C for me. I would love to put them in F, but they're not. But I'm not putting them anywhere near A or S. I don't care that it's a rival. I don't care that it's at Wisconsin. We beat them at Wisconsin last two times and we got Drake Lindsey. And I don't care about their quarterback. Their quarterback is going to be overrated. You're ready to clip it. Your quarterback is going to be overrated. Wisconsin fans out here talking about this is the next savior since Russell Wilson. No, he's not. Stop it. Insert the Michael Jordan gift. Stop it. Get help. Go find him. He's not on that. I am ready to say... I'm ready to put him in C. I'm ready to put him in C. Again, we've beaten him. Let's give him some bullets and board material. Prove it. Put it in. I'm putting him in the seat here. I think right now you're in the seat here. You can be at the top of the seat here. You are a Wisconsin fan with the state of your program right now. There's no world where you don't agree. Like, well, you don't agree that like, Michigan, you think you're the same as Michigan? Like, you can't be in that. You can't be in that. You can't be in that team. And you know, Chris, there's just spitting facts right there. Look, he's losing the axe. Bullstreak of his related quarterback hurt every year. Can't run the ball. Back to back under 500. Welcome to the seat here, my friends. You're on the downside. You're in the seat here. Reading it back, only one S tier game on the schedule in Indiana. Three A-teers games in Washington, Iowa and Penn State. Three B-tier games in Michigan, UCLA and Northwestern. And then three C-tier games in Wisconsin. This is if you stay in Purdue. One F tier with Eastern Illinois and Akron. So overall, you're talking about you should absolutely win your F in your C games. That puts you automatically. That puts you automatically at five wins right there. If you pull off two of your three B tier games, you're already at seven wins on the season. You win all three B tier games. You're talking about a team that it has potential, has opportunities, would be looking at eight wins right there. And if you win any A or S tier, your sniffing maybe some playoff talk, some high bowl game talk. So I think we killed it. I think we killed it. This is the right tiering for this. And we'll see how the gophers tear out. Okay. That's the last question. To wrap up the show, last question. If you looked at all this, where do the gophers tear? Mm, mm, mm. Gotta go B. I mean, you got it. Northwestern's in there. And that, I mean, the right between Northwestern UCLA, where we, you know, I think we're better than UCLA. And I think we're better than Northwestern, but we keep dropping it. I think they're right around that Michigan area where if they put it all together, they can be a good, good team. And then looking at it, you got to prove to us that you can put it versus our rivals. Like, you know, you were saying, Hey, Iowa beats us. You know, they're a tier above us. Wisconsin. Joe was coming. Word above. Yeah. Anything you're happy this year's our year. She's our year. Listen to me Cowboys fan. This year's our year. Yeah. It's rubbing off. It's starting to bring in his DNA. I'm sorry, folks. I'm apologizing for him. But look, we don't like this. Let's go. All right. I appreciate you all for tapping in again. This is the live show.
