GETTING CLOSER / MISSOURI TIGERS LIVE 71

Podcast Feed Transcript

Summary
### Top Actionable Intel - Main football news is RB Ahmad Hardy's availability after he was shot in the upper leg at a Mississippi concert. The host said Missouri expected a full recovery but did not yet know whether Hardy would play in 2026. - Hardy was described as stable, alert, moving around, and expected to be re-evaluated over roughly the next month. The host avoided projecting Missouri's 2026 offense until more medical clarity exists. - If Hardy misses time, Jamal Roberts becomes much more important. The host specifically noted Missouri was fortunate to retain Roberts as a quality RB option. - This is legitimate market-moving injury/availability intel because Hardy is Missouri's star back and the offense's season outlook changes materially if he is unavailable or limited. ### Missouri Team / Position Notes - RB: Hardy has an NFL future and was expected to be a major 2026 piece before the shooting; the key is recovery rather than football speculation right now. - RB depth: Roberts is the immediate name to monitor if Hardy is out or eased back. - Offensive recruiting/depth talk was mostly future-facing and lower priority for 2026 betting intel. ### Non-Football / Low-Relevance Sections Excluded - Missouri softball, baseball, basketball portal talk, NBA/NHL chatter, and general show housekeeping were excluded from team intel. ### Market Relevance - Watch for official updates from Eli Drinkwitz/Mizzou on Hardy's rehab timeline, fall-camp participation, and whether he is cleared for contact. - If Hardy is limited into camp, Missouri rushing-production projections and early-season offensive floor should be downgraded until Roberts or another back proves the room can absorb it.

Um we have our college football website uh voiceofcollegefootball.com that every you know, it show every show we have uh on the network of channels. Um and who hosts them, what time. There's a store, so come on come on come on over, take a look. Uh my the I literally made the show like title this morning as I was getting ready to go to work. I was like, you know, I'm I was like looking at my calendar. I'm like, it's May 11th. Like, it's going to be time for me to start doing some spreadsheets and uh ZOU, uh doing some spreadsheets and and getting some stuff together. I I I started putting my exit my ACC XLs together and uh and I got the news and I was like, man, I don't want to do any college football stuff today. Um Uh you can follow me on Twitter @psychosze50 and look, let's just go ahead and jump in jump into Um this this is came from I want to pull up the exact tweets. Um you know, like I said, I made the show this morning. I titled it. I set it to stream tonight cuz I like to do it before I go to work so I can tweet during the day. Um let's go down down down. Lordy, a lot of I I follow so many people I have alerts on for so many people. Um you know, I got it from Pete Thamel, statement from Missouri, uh Mizzou football student-athlete Amari Hardin was the victim of a shooting at a concert in Mississippi early Sunday morning and sustained a gunshot wound. Amari went underwent surgery in Mississippi and is in stable condition. Uh and is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, fam- family, coaches, friends, family, and fans. We will continue to stand by beside him and his family through this difficult time offering our love, prayers, and support. A timeline for his return to football activities is unknown at this time. Mizzou Athletics will provide more information um as it um uh becomes available. Uh then Brandon Marcello from CBS tweeted it out. Um no timetable for the of course um uh him coming back. Uh Pete Thamel again, uh this time at around 8:58, uh there's optimism that Amari Hardin will play football again. That didn't say this season, but again, how quickly he can return and the impact isn't known. He's alert and moving around today. Um So, that's the update we get this morning. Um like I said, I I'm I'm Okay, I'm here. I'm going to do the show, but this it's just not um it's just not like I'm not here to talk about what it means for the 2026 season. Um we have a couple updates on on that. I only want the facts when it comes to to Amhad. Like, look, what if he plays this year and then all this is a pointless conversation. We're just not going to know. Um so, I don't want to talk about like the impact, you know, the only thing is it's a good thing you kept Jamal Roberts and he's a really good running back. So, um from Gabe to Arman at uh at Power Mizzou. Um he was shot in the upper leg. Um According to WJTV, um this comes from uh Mississippi Original News Team, a news outlet in Jackson, Mississippi. Um MIZ MIZ_CFN is where I found this at. Um shooting happened at the Kamikaze club on Masonite Drive between 1:00 and 2:00 a.m. on a Sunday. Look, man, we've all had fun nights out. I I I still do. I'm almost 30. Um The concert was originally originally scheduled at Hattiesburg, but moved to um to Laurel. Um police According to police, Hardy was shot in his upper leg. Um three people have been arrested and it has turned out that um he was shot while like exiting a car. Um >> Um It just sucks like for him and you hope that even beyond like Missouri that he's able to play football. He has an NFL future ahead of him. Um he had a bright he has a bright career ahead of him. You just hope this doesn't derail that. Um Frank Cusumano from KSDK here in St. Louis. Um No damage says no damage to organs. Full recovery expected. Um Uh full coverage expected and it's going to be a month before we know if he's going to be able to play at all in 2026. Part of the reason I don't want to get into the full like this is what happens is Mizzou's outlook is we have 4 months until the season. It is getting closer. We're We're getting closer to the start of next season than the end of last season, which is crazy. Um but also like there's a chance he plays next year and if he plays he's going to be a Mizzou freaking Hardy. So um We'll see how he heals, but he's in surgery. He's he's doing okay like you know, he's talk up and he's up and about talking to people. Um It's It's just It's crazy. Uh the leader call names three 19-year-old suspects that were taken in for questioning. Um According to MaxPreps they were all high school teammates of Mizzou Hardy. Um It's just sad sad stuff, man. Like again, beyond the fact that it it potentially hurts Mizzou next year, this is a kid with a really bright future. Um when he came to Mizzou last year, there were a lot of people who didn't why know what he was going to be. If you had watched him at Louisiana Monroe, you knew the kid had a chance to be a stud. Now, lead the SEC in rushing stud, I don't think any of us predicted that. Um I thought, you know, but um man, he's freaking awesome. And it's it's just unfortunate and it's terrible. And there's a lot of conversations we could have that I'm not going to have right now. Um you're going to see all the stupid stuff from from people on Twitter from from certain fan bases, we know which ones. They're going to Oh, you know, ignore them. They're just trying to rage bait. They they think they're funny. They're not. Um they're losers. Um but it's just unfortunate, man. Like but you see a lot of well-wishing like, you know, it it's just I like I said when I I came on today, like I didn't even want to do that. Like it's just it sucks and it's sad. And I you know, I don't want to put words in people's mouths, but we'll see we'll see what happens. You know, we we have time. We have we're going to find out apparently in a month. Yeah, whenever he shows up at Farrow, it's that place is going to go nuts. And it's going to be awesome to see him whether it's as a player or not, we'll find out. Uh you know, soon enough, but um I was actually like thinking like this morning 1 2 3 like I'm getting into previews. I'm going to get into previews pretty soon and doing um you know, starting uh starting doing those, which is going to be a lot of fun. Um But, yeah, just a terrible terrible situation and as more news comes, obviously, you know, we'll talk about it. Um you know, it I don't want to dwell on it too much just because we don't know everything. Like when we get the news, hey, like he's not going to play at all this year, we'll we'll talk about it and like what the impact is or like he is going to play, but you know, we'll talk about the impact when there's something to talk about. Now, it's just prayers to him. Um prayers to his family or thoughts, you know, if you're not the praying type, you know, um you know, uh just thoughts with or with Hamler and and hopefully um no matter what happens that he makes a full recovery and is able to play football and or not even play football, but be healthy. Sorry, we got to plug in my laptop. Um be healthy and and have a have a successful life um whether it's on football or not. It seems like he's going to be able to play football again. They expect a full recovery, but it seems like he's going to be okay. Um but, like I said, well, as as news comes out, of course, we'll be here to talk about it, the impact it'll have on 26, but today is not that day. It's just not. Um cuz we're just getting into hypotheticals and I Look, I love hypotheticals, but I just don't think uh today's that day. So, so prayers to him, thoughts to him, and um you know, as more comes out. But, yeah, Hamler Hardy was uh was shot uh uh Saturday and a Sunday, which is weird that it kept quiet for 24 hours. Uh Um you know, like nobody knew. Uh it was tweeted out this morning. No, which is which is in this in this world we live in now is just crazy um that it didn't leak or like a police report or, you know, something didn't pop out. So, um when there's more news to talk about, we'll talk about it. And um we'll go from there. So, um next is is is is recruiting. Um the big recruit I don't know I'm going off my phone and my my computer I don't know what I don't know why my notes didn't save, but uh I do have I did back it up on my phone. Um Quinton Burl, four-star wide receiver, uh is choosing uh a his wide receiver uh is choosing he's choosing his school tomorrow. Uh he's choosing between Mizzou, Notre Dame, Michigan, and Arizona State. He's one of the top receivers of the 2027 class. Everyone seems to be leaning that he's going to go to Michigan. Um which would make sense. Um Michigan, man, look, Kyle Whittingham has done a really nice job at Utah. If he can keep using like it only chance to get better at at a school like Michigan. Uh he is one of the top ones coming I'm trying to pull up his exact He's going to commit live on Rivals tomorrow, which is not something you see that often. Uh he's a four-star wide receiver on Rivals. Uh four-star on 247. It would be a big pick up for Missouri, but it does kind of look like it's going to be Michigan. Um Other recruiting news, more offensive lineman, Jaylen Hill, uh three-star from Lanett, Alabama, is set a um official on June 19th. Uh Brandon Jones and him have gotten really close. Um he is a three-star. Um Uh Alex Patton is just kind of cleaning up some news. It was a quarterback target. Um he had a official set for Mizzou on June 5th, but he committed to Duke. Um you know, hey. Get that Duke education, my friend. Good for you. Uh Ramel Herring Dupree uh just got an offer from Missouri. He's got a ton of G5 offers, but um this is according to Sean um uh Sean Williams over at 247 that uh Virginia Tech has recently entered the picture there. Rutgers just recently offered entered the picture there. Um yeah, also I want to go Who would want to play Bryce Underwood? Like It's weird with these quarterbacks, too, cuz like DJ Lagway was like can't miss. He's going to be amazing. And now And then Bryce kind of took that over. We'll see. But yeah, no, like I totally understand And you get to play with him for 2 years. Uh you'd think so, but I I I think they I think they have it somewhat, but like they all transfer out because you just you you portal over them and then you don't play them. That's what with Atkins out, which is another injury that is going to make an impact when we kind of find out you know, you have a chance for Logan Ryker or Jack Lang or somebody somebody who's not a portal guy to make an impact on this team and and yeah, you know, yeah, we've talked about it a lot. Um Michigan's trending for Quinten Borrell, like I said. That's That's kind of the big recruiting stuff um this year. Another uh of course, and then we Do we even need to get into JJ Bush? Um linebacker recruit got a speeding Um he is currently suspended. Um Ah, just not a great uh great weekend uh for for Missouri um right now. Um I I still like I said we talked last week we're going to do defense but with the Hardy news I I I'm going to be honest I I I I did a lot of some recruiting stuff but I did I was going to go into defense kind of what they're targeting defensively. I I just did not have the energy today to kind of go through all of that. Um This Hardy stuff's really got me down and it sucks and cuz the kid is such a superstar, man. And if you just hope this doesn't impact his career. It I don't care about 26 at this point. But I I just hope it doesn't impact his career moving forward. But um you know, they're still waiting on Kingston Miles and Lawrence Britt and Charles Britton, uh Cayden Koonce and Jasper Onwukaike. I think that's how you pronounce it. I practiced it a bunch. Those are kind of their top five periphery targets offensively that they're they're really looking forward to. Um Yeah, that Yeah, I saw you make that joke in the in the Yeah, man. Like come on. Like just think like Mizzou has usually does pretty good job of not having like Eli does a does a pretty good job of not letting that kind of stuff happen in his program as far as we know. A uh but yeah, it's just just crazy. Um What else were we going to get into today? So that's kind of my football talk for today. Um I don't know if you can hear it in my voice like I just don't have I just don't have the energy for it right now. Um we're getting into the spring sports. Softball season is over. They lost in the SEC tournament to Auburn. They finished the season under .500. And now we wait. Like, are they going to make a coaching change? Um, are they going to bring in a new coach? Like, this is a program that has a strong tradition and has a strong fan base, a really nice stadium. And they stunk. And that just can't happen, you know. Um, they finished the year at 28 and 29, 9 and 15 in the SEC, only 13 and 10 at home. Had a chance to make some noise at the end of the year, uh, but lost two close games to Tennessee. Um, you know, kind of didn't take care didn't take care advantage of situations against South Carolina and Arkansas. And a chance to win a series at Georgia. Um, chance to win a series against LSU. Um, they did sweep Auburn early in the year and then lose them in the tournament. Had a chance to lost two one-run games against Alabama. Um, had opportunities, but just couldn't convert. And yeah, their season's over and we'll see what happens. That's two straight years. They I was at the game they played Duke in the Supers and I was at that game and uh, Duke uh, game three and Duke won in extras and then it just hasn't been the same since for uh, Mizzou softball. Uh, but Mizzou baseball stinks, but I hate I like I I don't want to be happy about this cuz this is really like, this is not the position you want to be in. But they played spoiler a little bit. Vanderbilt is looking for a NCAA tournament bid. They've had a really awful season. And Mizzou baseball takes two out of three from the Commodores. Um They win 8-7 in 10 innings on Friday. They The game finishes Saturday in a in a hell like a maelstrom. Um crazy weather at the end of the first game on Friday night. The Mizzou right fielder makes a heck of a play and says it's a ground rule double. Nobody can tell. They restart the game. Um Mizzou wins. Uh they lose 11-8 in extras and then they win uh 4-1 on Sunday. No strikeouts on Sunday. First time since they joined the conference. They haven't struck out in a conference game, which is crazy. Um They finish their season with a road trip to Texas this week and then they play in the SEC tournament. I think I don't remember off the top of my head if the SEC everybody qualifies. Someone can correct me. Yeah, they're just terrible. I I It's still an embarrassing program. Like I I don't think anybody's asking for Mizzou baseball to turn into Arkansas or like Texas or you know, some of these schools, but can you just not be like like it's a story when Mizzou is my cat's going nuts. It's a story when you lose a series to Mizzou. Like it's like oh god everything like I I would just like not to like not like I we've I've been that program in basketball where it's been embarrassing. Um Football was embarrassing for a while, but like that's just cuz no one respect like you except for maybe a couple years of the Barry Odom era. Um Been that in in basketball. I It's It's been like that in women's basketball and I'm just not a fan. So, like can we let's pick it up. Um And not have the same amount of care. They're off to a really good start. I got Cavs-Pistons on the big TV, Colorado-Minnesota on the smaller TV. If you see my eyes drift, um you can kind of that's what I I've got. If I look to my right, I'm looking at the hockey game. Look to my left, I'm looking at the basketball game. So, anyway. Um But, yeah, like good for Mizzou baseball. You know, we'll see what happens um uh this weekend against Texas uh Uh Mizzou basketball Nope, that's not has a visitor. This is one I want. Uh Jordan Crawford from South Dakota. He also has played a year at Eastern Kentucky. He played a year at Charleston, and then he redshirted. So, he is a senior. Um Mizzou kind of does need like it's a like right now this Mizzou basketball team Crow, freshman. Uh Bryant, obviously a freshman. I don't know if Cronister's going to play all that much, but Jones, sophomore. Tillmon, sophomore. Um Like it's just a young team across the board. They need some older guys, especially in the backcourt. We have Row who What in the hell are you guys doing? who's never played a college game. Uh Jordan Crawford last year at South Dakota um shot only 41% from the field, but 36% from three. He averaged 14.4 points per game, 1.4 assists, 1.3 turnovers, uh 2.9 rebounds. Shot 74.5%. He's kind of a Marquise Nowell type. Um he's not the He's a He's a decent ball handler. Um if you look at his turnover rate, it is only 8.9. Like that's Again, I will relate it back to Te'a Cooper Barrett who was over 20%. Um free [snorts] throw rate 0.274, which isn't terrible. At 2020 22.7 usage rate um over at uh at at South Dakota. There is a There is a narrative that South that Summit League transfers Yeah, more of a combo. Um they could definitely use one more guard on the roster and they'll have one spot left if if they get him to commit. Um He's more he's definitely more of a scorer. Let me find. There we go. Um Yeah, he's he's more of a scorer. He's not like the greatest passer in the world. But he'll do. Um You're kind of getting to the point where you need guys that will play 10-15 minutes. I think that's part of the issue Mizzou's having right now is any backcourt guy you get, you know like you walk in knowing Crowl's going to play 30 to 35 minutes if not even more in big games. Um If they can get Crawford to commit, I believe he did say he's visiting Tuesday. Oh, it's today. He's visiting today. That'd be nice if Mizzou could get him on a commit. Then you have one spot left. Maybe use it at international, maybe use it at a like on a Chazz Woodson, like kind of figure out what you want to do with that last spot, but the roster's rounding into form. Um we'll just kind of have to wait and see what it's going to look like. Like a lot of guys I said a couple weeks ago I had a spreadsheet of about 40 guys I kind of wanted at guard and forward. They took Connor Davis so I knocked off a lot of a lot of guys off off my board for for forward. Um and cuz they don't need it anymore. And then I knocked off uh some combos today. Well, a lot of guys have uh you know, obviously committed. Like Isaac Brunson was somebody I took a look at. Another South Dakota player. Um, Crawford did put up 18 points, I believe, at Mizzou Arena last year. So, like he's not He's a pretty like he's please played in in okay um Pull up his game log from last year. Uh, at Missouri, he was 7 for 15, 3 for 9 from 3. Come on. Uh, put up a 13.2 game score, 18 points, two steals, a block, two rebounds. You know, not uh not not crazy, but a solid a solid player that I think could could do some good uh on Mizzou's roster um next year. Let me pull up uh I saw your question like what kind of point guards are available. I'm I'm pulling up like who's best that's left. Uh, Te'Jon Sain is kind of a guy and we've seen Mizzou be connected to. Um, out of Weber State. We talked about him last week. He averaged two after two years in Juco, 21 points a game last year. Uh, five assists. Um, only an 11% turnover rate. That's kind of who I would want them to get. I don't think they are going to get him because I think we're starting to hit schools that have a lot of pieces of available. Um >> I like LSU, you know, um And then you got a lot of fifth-year guys like Rob Martin's getting a lot of uh lot of excitement, but Rob Martin's not going to get another year from everything I understand. So, um He played at SEMO and then last year was at High Point. I'm a guy I I would love Rob Martin on this team, but I just don't think he's he's an option just because I don't think he's going to get that that year. Um Another name that that has gotten some traction as far as point guards is Jeremiah Johnson from Campbell. I think if you finish the recruiting class with with Crawford and Campbell, I think you're you're fine. My only thing with Jeremiah Johnson again is I think you need a little bit older and he's going to be a third his third year next year, but he averaged 15 points last year um at the CAA. Uh shot 37% from three, um two assists, three and a half rebounds. Um You know, another guy is going to be Victori Miller. He's I don't think a guy I I but I don't think Mizzou is going to be a candidate for him just because I don't think they can offer him the minutes they want. Like he's a guy when the portal opened Yeah, like you can either So, you you have two things you can offer players. You can offer them minutes and money or money and then minutes. And I think Mizzou's at a point where you have to offer minutes and then or money and then minutes. Um they're not really in a spot to be giving away a ton of minutes. Um >> It's a good question like who's available cuz even I kind of want to know who's available. So I'm I'm using the Google machine kind of going through some names. Um I don't need that tab anymore. Sebastian Mack still available? If that uh that if that interests you. Um Yeah, there's really only like 247 only lists 12 guards like which is crazy cuz I would like Sane a lot uh on this roster. Um but it's like Sincere Harris at Cincinnati last year almost six points a game, 1.5 assists, 0.8 turnovers. Uh you know, um DeQuan Davis uh from Providence. If you want another Providence guard, he's 6'1. Um last year at Providence 0.7 points per game like didn't play the year before Florida State. Uh he was at 8.8 points per game with 2 and 1/2 assists. Um Could do way worse than Mack, but I want a ball handler. Um Davis the year before Florida State almost nine points a game, 2 and 1/2 assists. He was injured a lot of last year. If you want to take a flyer on a guy like that, I would certainly be okay with it. Um You know, you're at a point where like you're going to find no one's going to be perfect. Um another another name like this is a guy I legitimately would want Mizuta really look at is Myles Rice. Um they looked at him when he came out of Washington State uh a few years ago. And now he's a senior at Washington State as a freshman, he averaged 15 a game. Uh four assists, uh little high in the turnovers 2.6 per game. But like what was the turn? I don't care about the number as much as I care about the rate, which is 15%. He was at 19% last year in Maryland, but hard to really trust anything Maryland did last year. Uh played 17 games at Maryland, only six points per game in 16 and 1/2 minutes. Uh 1.3 assists, average more assists turnovers than uh assists, but he's another guy I think at this point I would take a flyer on Miles Rice. I really would. I I I actually think he's a pretty I think there's I think there's something there for Miles Rice and I think he's a ball handler um that can play. I think he's a guy I think if you're looking for a guy that could be this year's like uh Jayden Stone or someone that kind of comes out of nowhere and then you're like, "Wow, okay, we have to play him 20 minutes a game now or 18 minutes, you know, whatever." That could be the guy. Uh I know the other name that they've been looking at is Christian Bliss. Um 39% from three. Um six assists, 70 or not looking at, but another name is Christian Bliss from Delaware. He's a I would think would be a really good option. Uh he was sophomore last year. Uh played one year at Delaware. Uh 16 and 1/2 points, six assists, five rebounds. But the issue you're going to run in with guys like this is and he played 39 He never left the floor. I I got confused. I looked at his stats and then I looked at like a like I looked at his per 40 and I was like they're the same. I thought I was looking at the wrong thing. Um 17.7 turnover rate, but I I think that's you know, he had a 25% usage rate. Um Yeah, I am too. I think Jayden Stone would be a really good fit on this team. Um I just obviously he's not going to be coming back, so um but those are the like Miles Rice, Sane, if they can bring in Jordan Crawford. I I I think if you can roll out like hypothetically, and again I know I said it with with Hardy earlier we're not talking. Like like if you can roll out a starting lineup of Crow, Jones, Pierce, Tiller, Carey, and roll out a second unit combination of like Miles Rice, uh Miles Rice, Jordan Crawford, Kennard Davis, Tony Bryant Trent Tony Trent Burns, like I think I you're going to have to put it all together, but like on paper, like you're you've got you really really got something there. Um that could be really scary for teams to to stare to stare down here next year. And then Chronister, Rowe. Now, that's the reason I don't think they're going to take two guards. Like I think they really do believe in Rowe. I just don't know what you would do with your 15th spot. Like you you might as well get somebody. I would just prefer if they got a couple people like they got Crawford and then they brought in like Miles Rice. And if Aaron Rowe truthfully beats him out, then he beats him out and you go, "All right, Miles Rice, here's your paycheck." But he beat you, you know, he's better. But then, you know, you have your your 11 through 15 of like Rowe, uh Boateng, who I don't think is going to play this year from everything I understand. Um Luke Northweather, you can do way worse. Nick Randall, uh let's see, Chronister, Rowe, Boateng, Northweather, uh and Nick Randall. You can do way worse than and then Luke Northweather is your 15th guy, you know, a guy that loves being at the zoo. But that's a pretty damn good roster um that is going to have and Brock Faber scores a lot of expectations. But with that being said, um I'm going to hop off for the night. Um it's kind of a downer day, to be perfectly honest. Like prayers to Amon Hardy um and his family. Uh hopefully he comes out the other side of this even better. Um but I think we're going to wrap it up. This is I am Zach Armelius. I'm here with the voice of college football, Missouri Tigers. Hit like and subscribe, guys. Share it with your friends.
