The issue to me is the fact it is the "New Pac12 Champ" vs a former Pac12 legacy team that was not selected for a better bowl... either thru B10 or former Pac12 bowls. Another bowl connection... nice. The setup seems to be an opportunity for a pity party... "Hey here is the B10's 7th or 8th bowl eligible team, but be happy they are a P4 team!"
I'd actually rather see it vs the highest ranked G6 team the bowl could attract. Maybe even begin to position itself as a bowl to match the best G6 teams not in the CFP (which will soon be none) as a "quasi" G6 Title game?!
With the news yesterday of the B10 basically telling the ACC/B12 that 65+ P4 teams is too many, and we need to "self govern", I think it is time for the rest of the teams, and NCAA even, to say "see ya, so long to the SEC/B10, don't let the door hit you to hard on the way out!" Let them self govern and play within their own little world.
