Urban Meyer on why the Big Ten has surpassed the SEC: 'They got real serious'
Summary
Pick/market: NIL allowed Big Ten teams to pay for players like the SEC had done for years.
NIL allowed Big Ten teams to pay for players like the SEC had done for years. That was the equalizer. I love Urban, but he was the only coach who could look Saban in the eye (2-2 lifetime against him). Now you've got Indiana prison-raping Alabama in the playoffs. That happened virtually overnight, and it's because of NIL and the revolving door that is the transfer portal.
It isn't going away either. The Big Ten programs have far deeper alumni pockets than the SEC boosters. The longer there are no rules, the longer the Big Ten will dominate.
