Tulane Talent Fund Meeting
Summary
Offense: "Publicly", uh, yeah.
"Publicly", uh, yeah. Who made it a big deal? People with Tulane's best interests in mind? Tulane wasn't going to hire him anyway, so LSU went out of their way to get in front of the media (while we were busy winning a conference title on national TV and they were sitting at home doing nothing) to make it appear that not only did he spurn us, not only were WE the idiots who didn't act fast enough, but also it was because Lane is so amazing and his hire was the greatest thing ever and better to be an assistant under THEGREATESTCOACHEVER than a head at a lowly non-P2. Literally a calculated move to distract from their media disaster for two+ weeks, and boy, it sure worked in the New Orleans and Tulane circles. It worked so well that Tulane fans were crying that we sucked WHILE WE WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF CLINCHING A CONFERENCE TITLE AND A CFP BID. Go back and look at the attom board thread for the AAC CG and threads that popped up during the game on the main board. We were playing our asses off on the field, shocking the media world who'd already anointed UNT the best offense crown, and we were about to clinch the CFP... and people would rather whine about losing Baker? I'd heard from multiple sources (before that even happened) that he's not ready to be a head coach, and we better not hire him, but boy did LSU get their spin spun. A few people (myself included) got pretty pissed at the posters on this forum who let LSU win the night, despite the fact that we really didn't want to hire him anyway (I admittedly haven't looked to see if you were one of the complainers). Look, I'm sure you've searched low and high to find media outlets that call him the absolute worst so you can bolster your arguments, but none are types that would actually dig into the situation. Don't get me wrong, the hiring of an inside guy when you have paid a search firm to do a national search looks bad, that's obvious. A lot of the bad look was emphasized by LSU too, as mentioned above, to distract media from them. But worst hire in FBS? C'mon. Yeah a few lazy places put Hall bottom 5 or 10 or something, but they have no idea, and are basing that simply off his record at USM with zero research into his history at all (and not considering that it was at USM, with zero resources). Bad look? Yeah. Bad hire? TBD. My comments literally said none of that matters, only football.
