Jim Walden, unforgettable giant in WSU sports lore, dies at 88
Summary
Defense: Not the news I wanted to hear this morning.
Not the news I wanted to hear this morning. When I was a little kid Washington State went through all these coaches year after year. I didn't get it. Then they hire Jim Walden. I thought he'd be another guy who would leave right away and he stuck around and built the program and pumped up WSU like I've never seen before. They got those games out of Spokane which was huge, probably the biggest move for WSU football perhaps ever.
In addition he brought an exciting brand to the field, I loved all those great 1,000 yard backs he had, especially Reuben Mayes, my favorite player of all time. He had some awesome quarterbacks, great lineman, great receivers, great defensive players.
They also made the Apple Cup relevant, which was huge. Thanks, Jim, for caring. A life very well lived.
