I bet there's one or two on this schedule that we will say "didn't see that coming!" My only complaint is the home schedule. I really wish Marshall could get some larger conference, mid tier teams to visit. Heck man, I'd even take Toledo, little Miami Ohio or Ohio over the IAA & CUSA madness. What sucks even worse is loosing to these clowns on our home turf. It's only a challenging schedule if you choose to see it as such. People talk about JMU being "CFP participant" but also losing literally everyone and coaching staff...if they're terrible because of that real world issue, people would still consider it a major victory for those who want to believe it. It's the same as Marshall beating Purdue, despite how bad they were, they're a Big 10 team, however, some chose to look at the record and others chose to look at the brand...but if Marshall lost to some random SBC team who had a good head coach and a breakout star, isn't traditionally good, but is having a 7-5 season...they'll turn on Marshall and want Gibson fired for having lost. People accused Hamrick of padding the schedule...or at least trying to...is anyone gonna call out this AD for doing the same thing? I recall many claimed, "Hamrick, it's as simple as picking up the phone and scheduling...why aren't you doing that?" I imagine the defense this time around is, "the Power conferences don't want to play us, it is what it is" which is exactly what it was 10 years ago too. Your logic on the schedule having a few "didn't see that coming" games is accurate, which also will become a problem. Now that people are aware of the terrible schedule strength, they'll expect Marshall to win every game they're in (minus PSU), and if Marshall doesn't win, they'll instantly turn on the coach, the team, and the AD for hiring said coach. Furthermore, if Marshall has a disappointing season but a better one than the year before, Gibson is retained, people will complain that he's getting a pass and isn't a good coach because he can't beat anyone. I, for one, don't care who Marshall plays, if they win, they win.
