Temple University Fundraising Shatters Goal
Summary
LB: The SEC and Big Ten agreed to Save College Sports Act on Friday.
The SEC and Big Ten agreed to Save College Sports Act on Friday. It will easily pass in Senate and should pass in House as well. It contains a provision that any P4 that changes conferences has to play as an independent for five years before joining a new conference and caps P4 conference membership at 19. Makes intra-P4 movement vastly more difficult. Five years as an independent is an extremely heavy financial lift. You’d need hundreds of millions of dollars in donations to cover lost conference revenue distribution on top of donations for exit fees. None of the Big Ten’s west coast members are leaving. Travel may suck but the money doesn’t and money rules. G6 schools moving to the P4 was viewed very poorly by SEC and B1G members before Save Act because it dilutes their CFP revenue. Assuming Save Act passes they will be even less inclined to support Big 12 or ACC expansion. Maybe there is a path for USF but it’s a long shot. Congrats to Temple on fundraising. They finally have people with the skill and connections to shake money loose.
