5–1 at worst is a must. With the back half of the schedule being much tougher, can Beamer finally get this team off to a strong start? Beamer has struggled mightily out of the gate. His best first-six-game record at South Carolina was 4–2 in 2022, with wins over Georgia State, SC State, Charlotte and Kentucky. That team went on to win a respectable 8 games. The 2026 schedule sets up similarly in terms of opponent quality, and 2022 was the only season in Beamer’s first five years that he had a winning record through six games. Even in his “crowning achievement” 2024 season, he was just 3–3 after six games. We must come out of the gate at 5–1 at worst. A 4–2 start may be manageable, but with the tougher stretch on the back end, it would make getting to a winning regular-season record extremely difficult. Hopefully, a competent OL and a competent play-caller are the difference this year.
