Jason Candle said UConn remains inconsistent after two weeks of camp, with full-contact situational work exposing both encouraging stretches and execution that still requires correction before the Lafayette opener.

Toledo transfer K'Von Sherman is expected to lead UConn's defense after a 94-tackle, 14.5-tackle-for-loss season, and Candle believes the first-team All-MAC linebacker still has significant development ahead.

Penn transfer John Lista is adapting from a bend-don't-break system to UConn's more aggressive downhill linebacker scheme after producing 78 tackles, six tackles for loss and two sacks in 2025.

UConn added two experienced running backs in Toledo transfer Kenji Christian, who had 739 scrimmage yards and five touchdowns in 2025, and West Virginia transfer Cyncir Bowers, a one-cut explosive runner with 365 scrimmage yards and three scores last season.

Bowers said UConn's new offense is still making early-camp mistakes but is avoiding repeat errors and operating at the fast pace Candle demands.
