We need the rivalry back
Summary
Intel: There has never been a better time to make Notre Dame–Miami an annual rivalry again.
There has never been a better time to make Notre Dame–Miami an annual rivalry again.
Marcus Freeman is building a legitimate powerhouse at Notre Dame. Mario Cristobal is building an even better one at Miami. Both programs are positioned to compete near the top of college football for the next decade. If this game were played every year, it could become the rivalry of the decade and bring back the national stakes and intensity of the old days.
It has everything: two historic rivals, two national brands, extreme contrasting climates, and massive playoff implications every season. These are the two best programs outside the SEC and Big Ten, and we could easily be looking at a top-five matchup on a regular basis, either in the freezing cold of South Bend or the South Florida heat.
I want to beat Florida every year as much as anyone, but if Miami can preserve only one non conference rivalry, it should be Notre Dame. This matchup has the potential to be one of the biggest games in the country every single season, especially if it is played late in the year.
Our trip to South Bend this November is already being discussed as a potential game of the year. Why wouldn’t college football want this every season? Is there any way we make it happen? Im sure Cristobal wants this more than anyone.
