EUGENE, Ore. — The final week of Oregon football's preseason practices opened Monday, seven days before the Ducks kick off the initial game week of the season ahead of their opener Sept. 5. The Ducks returned to practice two days after the last major scrimmage of this preseason, on Saturday in Autzen Stadium. Following Monday's practice, offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer met with local media, as did center Iapani Laloulu and receiver Evan Stewart . Video of those interviews is embedded below. Some highlights from coach Mehringer … On how the offense responded after the defense had an edge Saturday : "I think our theme after that was, 'reset, refocus,' and those guys did that. I thought we had a much better day today. The execution in detail and all the things that you're looking for were a lot higher." On how newcomers have progressed through preseason camp : "You start to see guys start to get comfortable in what they're being asked to do; you start to see the fundamentals and details of, it's not just that they're going in the right way, they've got great hand placement, they've got great footwork, there's great communication." On the back and forth with the defense throughout the preseason : "It's been great. I think we're in a great spot right now. Certainly our defense presents its own set of issues that we got to work through too, which has been fantastic for us. and (defensive coordinator Chris Hampton ) is awesome to work with."
