I like the tradition of the Gopher opener being on a Thursday night before Labor Day every year. We usually take Thur-Fri off (just Fri this year), sleep in after the game on Friday, head to the cabin early Friday, and enjoy a long holiday weekend up there casually soaking in more college football.
When things stay the same for a while, you can develop a pattern which then becomes a tradition. I like our tradition of kicking off the college season every year with a 5 day weekend with a home Gopher game to get it rolling.
That being said, once the season starts I wish every regular season game was on Saturday. Not a fan of the Friday night games.
