Auburn is preparing for Baylor to alternate between two different defensive structures because its coordinator has successfully used both and has not revealed which will dominate the opener.

Baylor's defensive front features veteran Kyler Jordan, Coastal Carolina transfer Jordan Mack and an experienced interior led by Hosea Wheeler and Jamal Whyce.

Auburn must account for middle linebacker Travion Barnes, who returned from last season's injury and was described as perhaps Baylor's best preseason defender.

Baylor's edge pressure is expected to come primarily from Kansas State transfer Ryan Davis and Garrick Ponder, who recorded 4.5 sacks for Southern Miss last season.

Baylor returns safeties Devin Turner and Colby McCalister from lost injury seasons and pairs them with proven ball producer Jacob Redding and experienced corners LeVar Thornton Jr. and Devon Jordan.
