APP STATE APRIL 7th SPRING PRACTICE INTERVIEW
Summary
Malachi Singleton returns to App State after portal exit to Purdue; dual-threat QB morphs into RB when running; coach Loggains building complementary passing attack around mobility.
Quarterback Malachi Singleton considered Appalachian State as a transfer destination in 2025 before heading to Purdue instead, where he was a rotational player for the Boilermakers. When he re-entered the portal following last season, Singleton circled back to the Mountaineer program and made it his new home.
A veteran by eligibility standards, Singleton has just 16 games of non-starter action on his resume, but now, at least based on camp observations to date, he's making App State's offense his own, and head coach Dowell Loggains is constructing a system which maximizes Singleton's versatility.
There are quarterbacks who can move reasonably well and then there are true dual-threat guys, which is most certainly Singleton's category. When he pulls the ball down to take off, he morphs into the look and shows the skill set of a running back. Balancing that threat, which can stress defenses tremendously, with a complementary passing attack is where the offense is headed.
Singleton talks about choosing App State this time around, how he's working to mesh with not just receivers but an entire offensive group that's largely as new as Singleton himself, and his excitement about upcoming spring game day in Kidd Brewer Stadium.
