Quincy Craig focused on providing value despite injury
Summary
Arizona RB Quincy Craig injured, focusing on leadership and understanding OC Doege's offensive system.
Arizona running back Quincy Craig missed spring ball with an injury, but focused on how he could still provide value without being on the field. "It's definitely been a grind," Craig said. "We each have our ups and downs, but it's something where how can we be a value to the team throughout an injury and all the circumstances." When Craig reflects on his first spring camp at Arizona, he recognizes the need to still be vocal despite not participating this season. "The first thing that comes to mind is the heat," he said. "It was definitely a grind and it's taken a different mindset from me to shape that and step away this spring. I am going to be participating in my own way, but the thing that keeps coming back to me is how can I be of value when I am not in shoulder pads or a helmet." Offensive coordinator Seth Doege has the players believing in his system and Craig wants to make sure that the newer players keep a similar mindset. "Coach Doege has a really good offensive plan and scheme," Craig said. "He is constantly coming up with new plays and ways to mess with the defense. It's a belief system. How can we get all 11 on the field plus everybody on the sideline to believe in the system and dive into it? It's one of the things we've worked on, especially with the newer players that came in." Off the field, Craig and Kedrick Reescano have become vocal in making sure the team stays close together. "The coaching staff does a really good job of keeping everybody together and the team does a good job of accepting everybody," Craig said. "We have the potential to be another really close team and that will benefit us in the fall. "Having Coach Lyle's quarterback background, he is very smart and direct in what he does. He also brings that family aspect that is part of his culture with him being Polynesian. He does a really good job with that."
