Kedrick Reescano working to build bond with teammates
Summary
Arizona RB Kedrick Reescano rehabbing from injury, emerging as leader; team building bond after roster turnover.
Arizona running back Kedrick Reescano missed spring ball with an injury, but has remained optimistic throughout the rehabilitation process and was able to participate in some drills near the end of spring ball. "Always having good days and bad days," Reescano said. "It's part of the game. It's one of those things we have to work through. We have to keep it within the family and everything else that comes with it." Reescano has worked on emerging as a leader and although he is comfortable speaking out to his teammates and others, it is about finding the right time and overall approach. "Finding when to speak is more the issue, not really what to say," he said. "When you speak from the heart and you already earned the respect of your teammates they will get behind it. When to say something, how to say it, who you're talking to is the big thing. It's a challenge, but I am here for it." The hope is that this season's team will eventually be as close as last year's, but that is something that is going to take some work. "In order to say it's close this year as it was last year, we have to build that bond," Reescano said. "We're still a new team. That the part of the game that comes with the transfer portal. As long as your base guys have that bond, everybody will fall in line and then keep working to build that bond and it will be good." Being able to build a bond with the running back room has been made easier by the fact that Arizona hired Lyle Moevao to replace Alonzo Carter, who became head coach of Sacramento State. "We worked with Coach Lyle last year, so it was a relief when they were working to pick out a coach and Coach Lyle was named our coach," Reescano said. "We put in all this time with him already in extra meeting and drawing up offensive plays. We put in that time with him, so him coming in and filling that role was a seamless transition." With Reescano on the sideline, he has been able to watch his teammates closer and Marshall transfer Antwan Roberts is one of the players that has made a positive impression. "Antwan played in an offense like this before, but he picked it up really fast," Reescano said. "He is getting all the small details and running routes the right way. The other two guys have been in the system, so it's exciting to see them flourish because they didn't have that opportunity last year. Seeing them break long runs or even understanding where to pick up a protection is amazing to see now."
