POST GAME THREAD: Nate Train runs Duke to 1-0 with 17-3 win
Summary
Pick/market: Frustrating game in the moment, but starting off the season with a win is great and now that it’s over there were actually a surprising amount of positives.
Frustrating game in the moment, but starting off the season with a win is great and now that it’s over there were actually a surprising amount of positives.
Good things:
Defense looked great, lots of pressure in the backfield, especially from Davis and no coverage breakdowns. Nate was amazing as expected and the OLine was fantastic as well. Punting game was great and Salas was fine in his first game (missed FG was tipped).
Bad things:
ST blocking needs to improve to make sure we get our kicks off. Passing game was rough, lots of missed throws and basically every ball downfield, even the completions, were not exactly where they should be.
Given the the way the game went, I’m hoping Mahan gets the call to start against Illinois. Not sure if it’s going to turn into a 2-qb situation or if Mahan can grab it (or maybe it was just nerves and Eget looks better rest of season) but the offense really started to stagnate out there with Eget in the second half and Mahan going in brought some energy and a different look when we got that second TD (not sure if he can complete passes better than Eget because we didn’t see that, but there were some positives).
