Making their move for more playing time

Starting jobs and depth charts are always, to some degree, fluid throughout the week and in a game, and that's certainly the case early as the season begins. South Carolina's players hardly took a poor step in the 57-0 win over Kent State to open the season, so it wouldn't be easy to identify someone to lose a job based on in-game performance.
But there was a lot of great play by backups, which may mean they get a closer look at more snaps going forward.
On Sunday, after reviewing the tape, sixth-year head coach Shane Beamer did point out some players and positions when asked if there was anyone pushing for more snaps based on their in-game performance.

"I would say at each position there are guys where we need to continue to develop some guys and count on them more and more," Beamer said.
And he started out by discussing wide receivers, noting that Nyck Harbor, Mazeo Bennett Jr. and DJ Black were the starters with Nitro Tuggle being "3A" behind that starting group.
But Donovan Murph had a game-high 92 yards receiving plus two touchdowns, Lex Cyrus had three catches for 53 yards and the most acrobatic catch of the day. And there were others in that wide receiver room that caught the coach's eye.
"After (the top four), we weren't really sure," Beamer said, speaking of the receiver pecking order. "Donovan Murph did some really, really good things yesterday. Lex Cyrus, Malik Clark, and all those guys, showed that we need to continue to increase the reps that they get."
The Gamecocks (1-0) heavily rotated their tailbacks but Jabree Coleman was a real star with a 60-yard touchdown rush on his first touch, and totaled four carries for 77 yards with two touchdowns.
"Jabree Coleman had a really, really nice day, not just on offense but on special teams," Beamer said. "We're excited about his continued development."
Beamer flipped to the defensive side, and said that while the two weren't starters, backup safeties Kendall Daniels Jr. and J'Zavien Currence "both did some nice things" and that linebacker Jamian Risher Jr. "can be counted on as the fourth linebacker right now."
While there's heavy rotation at the defensive line regardless of circumstance, a pair of freshmen stood out to Beamer as well.
"Up front, Julian Walker, a freshman, didn't look like a freshman and did some really good stuff," Beamer said. "At that defensive tackle position, Aiden Harris came in at the end of the game, didn't play a lot, but flashed and showed some ability."
While it would be difficult to want to demote any player at any position after the lopsided win in the opener, there are some players who showed well enough to see more time on the field.
