The Gamecocks enter unfamiliar territory after one game with Kendal Briles
Summary
Coaching: Success rate – whatever that is and however it's calculated – it looks cool on a graph when there are a bunch of college logos spread across it.

If you're looking for more insight beyond that, ask Tom Fornelli of CBS Sports, who's also the No. 1-ranked college football personality in 2026. On Sunday morning, he posted a success rate graph that shows the Block C logo in a very prominent position.
Before the final two games of Labor Day weekend, South Carolina had the highest success rate among all power conference offenses, including LSU.
The Gamecocks eclipsed 70 percent on Saturday. No other offense in the country is currently above 70. In fact, only three others have a number that's more than 60: Georgia, BYU and Kansas State.
You read that right. South Carolina has the most successful offense in college football right now. Insert an obligatory comment about it being one game and it's a small sample size.
Shane Beamer said it best yesterday after he read off the numbers: 645 yards of offense and 57 points.
"That's fairly new to me," he said on Saturday afternoon, with a room full of folks laughing at what came across as a self-deprecating comment.
Offenses at South Carolina during Beamer's tenure have been up and down, which is putting it mildly. They've mostly been down, like really, really, really down actually. Marcus Satterfield scratched out a couple of nice games before he strapped into a golden parachute bound for Lincoln. Dowell Loggains had a good run his second season, but the first one wasn't very good, largely due to terrible line play. Mike Shula found a way to blend the worst parts of the Satterfield and Loggains eras before his dismissal, which occurred less than a year after he got the job.
Enter Kendal Briles, who was hired this past December as offensive coordinator. Fortunately for Beamer, Briles insisted that he bring along Randy Clements as the offensive line coach.
After one game against a MAC team that went 5-7 last season then got pilfered by the portal last winter, it would be a little bit premature to say anything definitive about what's to come in the next 11 games – check that, in the 10 that follow Towson.
For now, South Carolina has the third-best offense in the SEC, in terms of total yards. The Gamecocks are among the 10 league teams that scored 50 or more points in Week 1.
Everyone played a lower-level opponent to start the season, so it would be hard to say which SEC team actually has the best offense. What we know for sure right now is this: It's about the second time in more than a decade where it feels like South Carolina has a legit shot to be in that conversation.
And that's based on a little more than just one drive to start the season. Not much more in the grand scheme of things, but a little bit more.
Let's see at least four more really, really, really good Saturdays before we start talking too crazy.
