Several Gamecocks could make history in 2026
Summary
Pick/market: South Carolina needed to start the season 1-0 for Shane Beamer to still have a chance at history.
South Carolina needed to start the season 1-0 for Shane Beamer to still have a chance at history. There's a good bit of work to do though. If the Gamecocks win their next five games, he'll have 39 career wins, which will be tied for fifth-most in school history with Billy Laval and Joe Morrison. Laval coached in 71 games. Morrison finished with 69. Beamer, who's now into his sixth season, has 64 games under his belt. A 6-0 record to start this season would mean that Beamer has as many wins in as many games as Morrison, who went 39-28-2 during his six seasons. Beamer is now nine games away from coaching the fourth-most in program history. His current record is 34-30. LaNorris Sellers also has a chance to make his mark on the school record books this season. With a 300-yard passing game, Sellers will have five for his career, which will tie him with Blake Mitchell, Dylan Thompson and Jake Bentley for fifth-most among all South Carolina quarterbacks. Against Kent State on Saturday, Sellers threw for 270 yards and three touchdowns, to bring his touchdowns responsible for total to 49. Bentley and Stephen Garcia are tied for third-most (63) in the history of Gamecock football. Steve Taneyhill is second (64). Connor Shaw holds the record (74). Sellers finished with 25 touchdowns (passing and rushing) during the 2024 season. Shaw and Thompson hold the single-season record for touchdowns responsibility (31). Before Saturday, Sellers had 6,052 yards of total offense. He added another 271 onto his total in the 57-0 win over Kent State. Just ahead of him is former teammate Spencer Rattler, who's sixth in program history with 6,352 yards. Todd Ellis owns the record with 9,351 total yards of offense. Nyck Harbor entered the 2026 season with 68 catches for 1,189 yards and 10 touchdowns over his career. On Saturday, he hauled in five receptions for 70 yards for an average of 14.0 yards per reception. With two more catches, Harbor will qualify to be among the school's all-time leaders in yards per reception. He currently averages 17.2, which would put him fifth. The record is owned by Philip Logan, who averaged 19.6 over his career. Vicari Swain will tie Dick Harris for the school record with four punt returns for touchdowns, if he's able to house one this season. Swain had three returns for 30 yards against the Golden Flashes.
