Game thoughts…
Summary
Pick/market: The first drive was disappointing.
The first drive was disappointing. The takes in the game thread were embarrassing. I think I’m going to keep receipts this year. Being the 1st game of the season, a new OC, new OL and RB coaches, a completely new scheme, a completely revamped Oline, and hot as hell, this was about as impressive of an opener you could have. Punt on first series and ripoff 8 TD’s in a row. First drive hot takes looking moronic. 600 yards of offense. No turnovers. Only 3 penalties. Don’t even recall any of them. Did the Oline even have a false start? We held them scoreless and destroyed the spread of 36. Getting to play so many different players on both sides of the ball and keep the same performance and results is impressive. Some of my takeaways * There wasn’t as much fast tempo that I was imagining. Maybe the weather was a factor. Maybe it’s the opponent. Interesting to see what it will look like over a course of 3 games. * Sellers throws a great deep ball. Nitro penalty kept him from getting another TD. Sellers was off on a couple of throws. Other than that he played flawless. Didn’t even need his legs as a weapon. Let’s not forget that will be a major part of this offense when needed. * It was nice to be the ones dunking and dunking a defense to death was all these 5-7 yard gains. So refreshing. * I know it’s one game but the RB depth chart has been reshuffled for me. 1a Fuller, 2b Coleman. Great 1/2 punch. 3 Howell. 4 Augusteve, 5 Clark. Clark looks small out there. * Not sure anyone had Murph being the leading receiver. Cyrus earned some playing time. Love how they went out of the way to put the ball in Nyck’s hands. We’re deep at WR. * DLINE is gonna be trouble in the SEC. Pikes, GBD, Durojaiye, Addison, & Walker all flashed and made plays. * I feel good about Cutter if Sellers gets banged up. The only thing I wished we could have seen are a couple of FG attempts to assess the kicking situation. Other than that, we learned a decent amount about this team and individual players. Next week should be interesting to see the week 1 to week 2 improvements.
