Louisville gave itself a chance, but it wasn't enough. The No. 24 Cardinals fell to No. 9 Ole Miss, 41-38, on a field goal from Ole Miss kicker Lucas Carneiro as time expired.
Louisville erased a two-touchdown deficit to tie the game in the final two minutes, but the Cardinals' comeback fell short. UofL quarterback Lincoln Kienholz tied the game on a seven-yard touchdown with 1:28 to play. Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss responded by getting the Rebels into field-goal range, setting up Carneiro's game-winner.
The loss drops Louisville to 0-1 despite an encouraging second-half performance from Kienholz in his first collegiate start. Kienholz finished with 307 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions on 18-for-29 passing. He also had 14 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown.
Chambliss went 21-for-36 passing with 336 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. He added nine carries for 60 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
