Does anyone have any analytics on Risk vs Reward of fielding punts. Every Saturday and Sunday in the fall I watch games that are decided by a fumbled punt. The other team is giving you possession. Sean McVay and the Rams have lost two playoff games because of fumbled punt. I understand if the other team is on their goal line and you have an opportunity at midfield but if you are standing inside your 30 how is it worth the risk to try and catch a wobbly ball out of the sky? Every sport has been taken over by analytics; the analytics have to prove that it's best to just take it wherever it lands if you are gaining possession.
