Coach Entz Presser - Sac State Week
Summary
Coaching: Entz was defensive last year when reporters began asking tough questions about the quarterback play and offense.
Entz was defensive last year when reporters began asking tough questions about the quarterback play and offense. That is their job so expect more tough questions in coming weeks.
QB does not have much experience and will have growing pains recognizing and sliding away from pressure. The early pass he missed to Speedy in the flat could and should have been a completion if he adjusted his arm angle to deliver the ball against the rush from Jake Wafle. That instinct should be present but might be lacking right now due to him not seeing much game action in four years. I recall also seeing on the fumble play where the safety was blitzing from his right side that he glanced and saw the safety coming and slid slightly left but it was not enough effort to escape the rusher and the decision to run, roll, or throw it away was late. He looked good early and then pressure came which it will in each of the coming weeks. Not sure that the OC can help him with the speed of the game when the bullets start flying. And I think we all agree that the OC and offensive scheme are not that thrilling in today's world of football. I believe the OC is under a two year contract so Davis has a pivotal year in front of him and game one did not look good.
Yeah, first quarter didn't look all that bad as we were only behind 7-0. Then the wheels came off after the trent mosley 82 yard pass with YAC early in the second quarter. Defensive effort was there but we need to find or fill our safety weaknesses. Look for Carrillo to be a surprise this year. Kid has heart and good athletic ability. Is he the next Bracha?
I don't know about you but I don't think I can endure being patient to overcome growing pains from the QB. Some of this stuff should come natural with a savvy quarterback that has a pocket presence and the ability to extend plays with his legs so that he can buy time for receivers to get open or run when the opportunity presents itself. It is that type of quarterback that high powered offenses are built around today. That's why USC went after Maiava in the portal.
