USC remains steady in AP Top 25 poll
Summary
Pick/market: USC remains the No.
USC remains the No. 14 team in the Associated Press top 25 poll released Tuesday.
After coming in tied for No. 14 in the preseason poll, the Trojans have actually inched in front of BYU, who is now No. 15. USC has put some good performances on tape in non-conference play and keeps its spot. They opened the season with a 43-26 home win over San Jose State in Week 0 and followed it up with a 39-0 victory over Fresno State in the Coliseum Friday. Quarterback Jayden Maiava has thrown just six incomplete passes on 54 attempts and has six total touchdowns through the first pair of games.
"I think it comes from the guy sitting next to me (Lincoln Riley), and the o-line, running backs and receivers just all being on the same page playing at a really high level," Maiava said after the game Friday. "But obviously, there are some things to clean up that we want to get better at. Close out this game and onto the next."
The cardinal and gold prepare for another game at home with Louisiana coming to Los Angeles for Saturday's game. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. PDT, and it will be shown on the Big Ten Network.
Ohio State remains the top team in the country followed by Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas and Indiana. Oregon dropped four spots from No. 2 to No. 6 in the poll after a narrow win over Boise State, Penn State rose two spots to No. 16 after a shut out win over Marshall, Washington dropped two spots to No. 19 after struggling in its win over Washington State and Iowa rose a spot to No. 21 after shutting out Northern Illinois.
Michigan fell from No. 16 in the preseason to outside the top 25 after its clock-malfunction Hail Mary win over Western Michigan. The Wolverines received votes but didn't make the top 25 as did UCLA, Illinois and Minnesota from the Big Ten.
