We've got people who know coaches or staffers, people who work in/around the AD who hear gossip, kids who have classes with or are friends with some of the players, etc. It's very likely there are numerous people outside of the program who knew that Hardy hadn't practiced yet even before Thamel's tweet. That's not even salacious gossip or speculation about a return date. Would be very easy for a backup OL or something to admit to a buddy, "yeah, Ahmad still wasn't practicing yet today".
