Watching the FSU game from last night…GREAT
Summary
Defense: I don’t think the call is necessarily the issue.
I don’t think the call is necessarily the issue. The idea is sound. Overload with pressure while having birds on a fence ready to pounce on the short pass. Makes sense…
Until you see the technique the DBs are playing. For starters they are not birds on a fence. All are at varying levels of too far back. Then they all immediately back pedal on the snap giving even more cushion. So a simple in-breaking route is easily given up for a first down and the corner who was backpedaling is too far back and then misses the tackle because of it and you have a touchdown.
this is either bad coaching or bad execution. The corners are supposed to be at the sticks for starters and their first steps should not be to back peddle. It’s a freaking zero blitz. The ball is coming out right now. They should damn near be flat footed and ready to break on the short pass that is inevitably coming. Seeing how all the DBs did this it seems like bad coaching. Not teach situations in practice. How you call this defense and your DBs not understand on a zero blitz on 3rd and 6 the ball is almost guaranteed to be thrown at or before the sticks is baffling
