Answer to many on Key
Summary
QB/OL: While some of this banter is QUITE entertaining, it really is sad to see where things are.
While some of this banter is QUITE entertaining, it really is sad to see where things are. I have always been fundamentally opposed to paid forums (although did do the 'Insider' thing on the Hive for a time) but Kelly's cheapskate deal sucked me in ... as did all of the BS that Key has been selling through the off season. Okay, our O-line was only getting seen against our D-line, and I don't know crap about coaching at this level, BUT: could they REALLY not tell these guys couldn't play together? OBVIOUSLY the last minute shift to Riggs at center told me a lot. Actually it scared me, because clearly things were NOT as we had been led to believe. It is one thing to suddenly move a big DT out to DE because even though he is a beast, turns out he is EVEN FASTER than coaches realize. That would make sense. But center is just too crucial! So what actually happened? Mackinney was a Freshman ALL-AMERICAN! When did the alien abduction thing happen, and how do we get the real player back? Listening to a podcast (ancient Diet Coke drinking guy) while I was working out earlier, he reported stuff about Key I had not heard. Then again, I haven't been dialed in (at inner working level) since the days of DRad. I always enjoined CPJ's press conferences, and he had EARNED the right to the attitude he displayed. Key's schtick has gotten old, it really came across during the live show last week. It hit me: this guy has issues - and yes, it IS my professional arena! I have worked with professionals, very successful in different arenas. Key's flaws have become far more apparent to me. Yeah, I DO think that Buster & Philo are JERKS for the way they handled things. But Philo can play... as can 'Berto. Not worried about QB, how about simply developing a cohesive offensive line, having a CLUE about clock management, and TRULY OWN a crap game. No pat phrases that "It's my responsibility" - how about HONEST mea culpas with specific defects. It does not seem like it's going to be coming. At least we can look at Clemson and feel a little better. Finally: I think we will see a young QB develop into a potential GREAT QB over the season ... and be angry when Cignetti buys him back after we spent a year developing him. Wienke CAN do that, I have no doubt. But otherwise it is going to be a LONG season UNLESS CBK get's a clue. Tell him to call me, I only work a limited, part time schedule now, I'll make time for him. Bham isn't that far away, we can make it work
