For everyone that thought
Summary
Intel: I didn't think they'd be a finished product, which is a large part of the reason why I've felt like we'll be fortunate if they end up hitting the over for Vegas' win total.
I didn't think they'd be a finished product, which is a large part of the reason why I've felt like we'll be fortunate if they end up hitting the over for Vegas' win total. There was an opportunity to be a significantly better team, but the coach did the bare minimum thinking it would be enough to have them "pointed in the right direction", but even that wasn't enough. I've said all along, it felt like Dabo just wanted this team to be not as awful as last season, yet that's not even a sure thing. The Ferrelli situation shouldn't have happened, but it was in part proof that Clemson/Dabo's approach to the portal was amateur hour, no pun intended, in large part because of Dabo's reluctance to use it significantly to that point. 2025 was one pursuit of Heldt that went well, plus Alexander and Smith who basically didn't have many suitors. I'm sorry, but a head coach making over $11mm/year and a staff that is making around $25mm in total, plus GMs, directors of player retention or scouting, etc who must be making multiple additional millions altogether, should be prepared enough to figure this **** out. It all falls on the head coach, of course, but what an absolute failure when there's plenty of resources to get better, and just about every other program in the country that is near the level Clemson should be at has no issues navigating it.
