People may snicker at FSU’s stadium plight, but come Tues…
Summary

There is some kind of emergency backup that was powering a few of the lights the whole time which is the safety contingency. They just had bad luck that a transformer failed at just the wrong moment. For a maximum of 8 dates a year (32 hours of possible game time), there is no reason to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on redundant transformers. Transformers are very simple and reliable pieces of equipment. I've lived in my neighborhood for 25 years since it was built and there has been exactly one transformer failure. Almost all stadium power failures are due to something outside the stadium that effects an entire area. The far more embarassing game at Doak was the year we played them and the field was like a slip n' slide because they were afraid to turn on the under-field drainage pumps because they hadn't been used or tested in years and they thought they migh create sinkholes.
