Its really funny because people were saying the same thing about Malcahi Nelson. Oh Nelson will start by the 3rd game, etc. I think Madsen has qb 1 locked down because he's the 5 year starter. Most games can be won by just not making mistakes and playing smart football, which Madsen can do. I think if he continues to struggle and doesn't show signs of growth? Then I think its fair that there becomes real conversation about competition for qb#1. But I think 95% of the coaching staffs around the country would make the same call. I truly despise how Prater and some others make it sound like its just loyalty and favoritism. The coaches and players believe Madsen is their best chance to be the best they can be. Now I agree that Spencer spoke somewhat too strongly on Madsen last year. But I also think Spencer is a players coach, loves these guys like his own kids, and tried to protect them from the media. That on top of Spencer probably getting defensive, I think statements like he's the best quarterback or i wouldnt rather have anyone else are a little much. You have to remeber that Madsen was getting death threats and strong hate too though. Hopefully Spencer can admit when Madsen makes mistakes, because I think most of the issue is just communication, not what he actually does and thinks. If Cash, Taylor, or Cutforth become a better QB or give us a better chance at winning, I have faith in not only Spencer, but this coaching staff to put the kids in the best position. Its not just the head coach that makes the call guys. Zak Hill, Nate Potter, etc. Also when the locker room and the coaches believe that a QB is their guy, that's usually a good sign. If Madsen really wasn't the guy at the moment, the locker room would feel that too. You'd have guys pushing to some degree for someone else. I think its a bit in bad faith to say "all the coaches and all the players are just blinded with love, and its us the media and the fans that know Madsen is only there out of loyalty".
