OL/LB: We'll probably touch on this on The Scoop this week when it comes to the depth chart.
We'll probably touch on this on The Scoop this week when it comes to the depth chart. I wouldn't say that I take depth charts with a grain of salt, but I always try to remind readers that they're sort of accurate and very much fluid. For example, yes, John Stone has pushed Grayson Mains , and they're listed on the depth chart together as co-starters, but the only way Mains isn't starting Saturday is if he's hurt. That's not to say that Stone hasn't had a good camp and shown really solid versatility at both center and guard, but Mains will be the starter there. Also, if you're looking at left tackle, John Watkins is listed as the backup there as a true freshman, which is promising in that you want to see that progression and growth. And yes, he and fellow true freshman Karon Spencer have been working as the second-team tackles in camp. But if anything should happen to Giakoby HIlls or Kevin Terry , you'll see Zach Aamland out there before you see Watkins or Spencer. On a similar note, if Eric King should get hurt or miss a series or two at left guard, you would see either Mains or Stone slide over there before you'd see Mausa Palu , who is currently listed as the backup left guard on the depth chart. The clearer way to think of it is that Aamland and Stone are the next two guys off the bench, with Stone at center or guard and Aamland having the most versatility at pretty much any position except center. But yes, the program has legitimate offensive line depth for the first time in a long time.
