The Five Point Stance with Paul Carrington: Bethune-Cookman Postgame Reaction

To see where I’m coming from, go back and watch the game, but instead of looking at the OL, pay particular attention to Barnett. Look at how he starts the game versus how he finishes (he played through the first series of the 3rd quarter). Watch his body language. Early on, his timing and rhythm was there. But on his last few series, you could tell that he was getting happy feet and looking to run first and throw second. On 18 pass attempts, he completed 11 of them. I’ll have to go back and look at the film myself, but I wanna say at least half of those pass attempts were quick curl routes, slants, bubble screens etc. where he is releasing the ball in less than 2 seconds. On his true, five-step and seven-step drop backs, Barnett was pressured 3 times, sacked once and tried to force a throw deep over the middle that got intercepted. Were this a Big 12 contest, against quality pass rushers, those stats may actually be OK. These were FCS defensive linemen and linebackers that were getting in the backfield. There were a few times where they came through the line, untouched. We are going to see if we truly do have an improved offensive line this weekend against Pittsburgh. I hope they can hold their own against a quality ACC front 7.
